  1. I think he might be referring to the fact that more and more trails/enduro’s and what-nots only go down half the time and are a bit ‘xc’ in that you’ll do some ascending on the way down as well, you know…. use the full range of your cassette lol. I think the modern trail builder partial to ebikes could 100% forget that some of us are still on ‘Amish’ bicycles. It certainly makes their lives easier. Banhoek is not one though… you can gooi an Aaron Gwin and go down chainless for that matter. it is a bit ‘flowey’ but it rides awesome and is probably one of the best maintained around.
  2. The state of my shins will give Freddy Kruger wet dreams… My last strike resulted in 12 stiches haha
  3. Shutup…that paradox v3 is mine🤣
  4. I also ride both. Blue, red trails are leka with clips…also climbing. Jonkers, or even conties upper i just feel more confy in platforms. Maybe it’s because i feel LESS connected to the bike and thus safer when it gets really rough. At jonkers I found that with clips…if you lose your momentum even once on a techy part and have to unclip…it is so so so difficult getting back in for various reasons. (for me at least). My PB’s at jonkers are all with flats….even though i cant jump fir sh!t in them. Something about “heals down” just works there for me even though I dont feel as glued to the bike. As already mentioned by others, the shoe-pedal interface is everything with flat pedals. There are combo’s that will give you less movement than the float on a cleat due to all the grip. This is also all preference. Some people like a concave pedal (eg. DMR vault), some a convex one(eg. One up), some like tuning grip by adding/removing pins, others buy less grippy shoes. it’s kinda like knowing what release tention you like in you clipless pedals, what float you like in your cleat, what stiffness you want in your shoes. Lastly, just a word of warning…the entry fee to riding flats is payable in blood, literally😅 id advise to go buy some cheap shin guards for the first few tries if you’ve never tried a shin destroyer. They are blood thirsty animals.
  5. The more recent Rich Energy scandal and how it was literally exposed by a bunch of F1 forumers collectively digging for dirt is the stuff movie directors’ fantasies.
  6. Edited the topic with new info for you lot. Also, there is a webpage now, or has been for a while….who knows, atleast we found it🤷🏻‍♂️ (Thank you to the organisers for doing a good job with events thus far, but you can 100% work on getting the word out a bit more, that will aid the goal of growing the class too imo) For now, we’ll help.😅 https://wcenduro.co.za/#enduroevents
  7. It is a boat anker for sure. But I also enjoy the illusion of security it provides haha. Predictable through a range of movement for an avarage plonker like me. Doesn't have that 2.5 DHF death gap once you hit a certain lean angle. I know the sendy guys can basically ride on the side knobs with their bikes virtually horizontal to the floor….but i cant. When im horizontal to the floor on a bike….it usually coincides with pain, blood and wincing.
  8. it doesn't have to be dry, just not a monsoon. finally maybe a reason to invest in a set of mud specific black things 😄
  9. Screw that, ill be there🤣 edit: ANOTHER entry bought and paid for. You better get yourself another one @BikeGenie😅
  10. Yes. Tweed blazers and leather bags also don't like excess water.😁
  11. Not gonna lie, im delighted that I have another chance to ride it if it gets pushed by n month or so and i’m all healed up and ready to go hurt myself again😅.
  12. So was this that coffee curse you and tim were on about?🤣 you buy coffee and you crash?
  13. Well if it is raining the amount they promise, i should come do it with my af arm since we’ll be walking most of it anyway😅 days like these is when you need a single speed rigid trail bike thats is mud proof
  14. Yes i would….😅
  15. KISS yes, and yes, bike is ok - most important part haha. Body parts heal, bike parts are expensive🤣
  16. I dont think too many were cancelled. The xc and marathon fields seemed fine. The enduro field even had a 120 strong entry considering most bro’s called it xc-duro. The weather was the main contributor and made the expo and stalls a bit of a mess. Also, races were cancelled/ pushed on account of heavy rain and lightning, considering that most of the trails are on top of that koppie, probably a good call. The Enduro almost got pushed to. It got a bit flashy and rumbly right before it started.
  17. I wish it was while trying the drop! Haha, armageddon 5 right after the wall ride, such a silly every weekend crash…front wheel just gets hung up momentarily on a rock…fall into the trailside foliage, break my helmet against a rock…and re-posteriorly dislocate by shoulder. its going to be so floppy now, next time the wind blows too hard its going to come out ps: ive decided that i have Adamantium clavicles…unbreakable, rather just push the shoulder out the back🤣
  18. In the off chance my Nurse hiker hero from jonkershoek reads this, thank you for your help today Hermien. Also thanks to all the people who helped down at the trailhead, also @Warren Melissa Go Riding, thanks for a fun day out. Good vibes, fun people all round. (Sent you a PM) i’m unfortunately out, and no mtb for 6 weeks😫. let me know if someone is keen for an entry to the full. Ill sort you out. EDIT: entry found a new home. Enjoy Wayne.
  19. Bought me some premium real estate, then some morphine, xrays, an arm sling and in the next weeks a new helmet and some shoulder rehab haha🤦🏻‍♂️ fml
  20. I did my first one on a rigid mtb…that year when half the field went home in space blankets. sure, the avarage mtb will pass you down the long descents….they did me to on my rigid, but on the rest you will murder them. i have one, i ride it a lot. It has 50c tyres on it that i can run under 2bar. I’d do that race on a gravel bike for sure. I also have an enduro bike…and i would not drag that hunk of lead across that road…even if it means i could fly down the hills. It would suck on the rest. Too heavy, too squishy. That 5-7kg delta in weight, less rolling resistance, gearing makes a huge difference over 100km on the brown stuff. I didn't know they are allowing gravel bikes again this year…thats why I havent done one again. Might just get me an entry if thats the case. There is nothing on that road that gravel bike and a bit of common sense wont achieve. Ask @Wayne pudding Mol, he probably rides it more than anyone on here. You’ll lose a minute or two on the long descents but you can laugh at them on the bits that matter later.
  21. Also..next time write down the key numbers. They recently want proof of ownership too and wont just sell you keys willy-nilly for obvious reasons. So take the thing with or show them a picture of it.
  22. Its only really that part by the big drop off and the off camber part right after it…especially if you are doing it for the first time. You don't see the b-line around the side down the chute lol. But yea…need to go try that bit a few more times myself.
  23. Even iron monkey was very powdery 2 weekends ago….like the few soil bits in between all the rocks I mean😅
