  1. 100% If you are already making sacrifices then you dont need to make more. But I probably fall into the same boat as most people on the hub where we are too scared to throw our money at something that is not going to benefit us. So for once I am going to get off my bum and give something.
  2. Just reply to him in his thread. Shot
  3. I dont know.... Maybe after you change yours?
  4. Yep, me too man. Sorry that I have been so slack on this. Send me the details. Otherwise I will give you the cash on saturday at the durbanville race (if you are going to be there)
  5. I have been fairly inactive on the hub for the past while. Been too hectic at work. Had some time today to do some creeping around and I had a good look at one of Frail's posts. I am pretty sad to see that only 6 people from here are willing to chip in and help him. I mean he is not some oak on the street that is going to drink out this money, it is a legit cause. I dont have a huge burden for old age homes on my heart. But he does. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/87140-talk-no-longer-moved/page__st__40 I am not a kind of person that likes to give away money to anything. And it is normally driven by the fear that I am not going to have enough for the month. So, yes I am one of the guilty people as well. But for once, why dont we eat one less macdonalds meals for the month and rather put that money into something worthwhile. If you could give up one of your small luxuries for just a few days and see that money making a difference in someone else's life, why wouldnt you want to make the sacrifice? I am going to support him with R50. There is also some prizes to be won, so hey, you may get your money back even! Who else is going to support him as well?
  6. What a machine! Doing what he does best. Pulling the group along. Did this route a few weeks ago and the SE picked up nicely coming back. Whole group took a bit of strain. Charles was with us, and he was like, no, we are going too slow, so he machined so hard up at the front that left the rest of us taking strain sitting in his slip. Chatted to him before the race on sunday. Said he wasnt feeling well, he had just had his wisdom teeth out. I wonder how he felt on the ride? But back to the topic. You will never find me riding like that. The drops is as far as I venture away.
  7. Wow, That is far too much work for me. But I suppose if you are desperate it is pretty cool!
  8. I luckily was in my car today! (with bike in car) Looking forward to flying home today on the bike. Whats the weather doing for the morning?
  9. Ill take some snaps of lincoln sometime.
  10. That is very steep. Here is a little killer that I have done now and then on my way to work. http://www.mapmyride.com/route/za/bellville/650128775229271595
  11. Thats true. He wouldnt have to change around the hub internals. Very easy indeed then. Could have one problem though..... The pedals may unscrew themselves now.
  12. mmm.... Loosing weight that quickly, you are loosing muscle as well. You need a balance of carbs, protein and fat in a normal diet. Just cut out the junk, sugar, oily stuff. Switch to low gi food, small meals throughout the day. Eat only protein, you are indeed going to match up to your name.......
  13. Arent your bar ends as well?
  14. Dont worry Tankman I am also hovering at about 12 hours. Bad weeks about 10, good weeks about 14. Also riding SV this season for the first time. I do think for us guys who havent been cycling since we were teenagers there is a big difference in the amount of time we need to spend getting our bodies to conform. Ie. If you were racing elites at 16, and you are a rake, then yes you could probably get away with 10 hours a week and still be in a good place to feature in a race. For me however, only starting out like 3-4 years ago, 30 odd kg overweight at 26 years old, the road to any form of racing is not a very pretty one. I am needing many hours and years on my saddle to get rid of whatever I dont need in the wrong places (including muscle) and hopefully my body will be in awesome condition by the time I get to Vets, and then I can maybe drop my hours to 10 hours a week. Do agree with Fand as well. If there is a will there is a way. So I commute to work, there you kill the training time with traveling. I need to often be out at 4.30 on weekends if I want to ride - wife's rules. But I do agree that family still needs to come first. I also have a 2 year old son. Rest is a major thing though as everyone is saying. I am often on the verge of feeling burnt out. So then I take a few days of just very slow riding, and better sleep and I feel a bit better. Also have a few late nights and it knocks you so hard you feel really k@k because your body cant deal with all of that stress at one time. How much is too much though like BikeMonster was saying? I dont know..... I often feel really happy by the end of the week when I can drive my car home from work instead of cycling. Will I suddenly get to a point after 10 thousand hours where my mind says enough is enough. Maybe ? I really hope not. I even feel at the moment that I am not as excited about racing as I was a year ago. I only entered for the argus two days ago. Still contemplating if I should do the one tonner. Yes, it is expensive when it adds up. But a year ago the excitement would have just made me run up the credit card anyway. Maybe too much commuting is sapping my riding joy a little. The same boring route everyday. Oh well. At least I get to take the car home today. Maybe riding alone commuting is getting to me. I love group rides to bits, mmmmm... Doing a nice one tomorrow. Checking out the westcoast express route. Going to be super.
  15. You have some competition here Mark Better than 32GI
  16. Thanks for joining me this morning Peter. Wow, I cant believe how tired we were today. Just had my other elite bud smsing me to ride tomorrow morning. Flip, so tempted to go. They are going to go check out the new westcoast express route. I was so tempted, but I am sure that I would die if I went out again with these broken legs.
  17. Good stuff. Seems like other people are scared to get up early. Personally, I think it is such a great time to ride.
  18. Going to do the same thing this weekend again. Anyone keen to join me?
  19. Yep, probably was me then. I go past there when I commute. You commuting?
  20. Could have been. Did I have a light flashing on my head?
  21. Cool Next week the same thing if we can. We need to make sure that the club goes upto the N7 everytime. It adds some more hill in and it adds about another 30 min or so to make it 2 hours with them. Maybe we should even get it put onto the newsletter? You know Rodney better than I do, dont you maybe want to drop him a email and tell him that if anyone else is keen they must just meet us there? Will be even better in a bigger group.
  22. Good going man! Thats some nice distance. Yes we ended up doing about 110km. Would have been about 130 I recon (and including kloofneck), but it got cut short a bit when one of the guys pedals snapped in two. (aftermass of the bus hitting his bike) Luckily I had some threaded tape with me, so we stuck the two bits together and we managed to get back to table view to swap out his pedals for his mtb ones so we could carry on a bit before the group ride. Oh yes! We rode alot of the way on the new bicycle lanes towards town, and apart from the poles which could smack you stupid it is very nice. Have to admit that the group ride got a bit tough towards the end. Having 4 hours on my legs and then the group ride guys were still working hard in a through and off echelon. The club ride guys had less than half the time on then, so it was tough to stay at race pace and couple of them are also league riders. The group ride also made a trip up to the N7 (from the westcoast rd) and it is a nice steady gradient that hurts going up at speed. But at the end of the day, that is why I am doing this to myself. If I can finish a solo ride + a club ride(at pace) then I should be fresh at the end of a 3 hour race. (Well thats the idea at least!)
