  1. As far as I remember and stand to be corrected the route was supposed to be flat and fast but the route was changed. If the route stays the same then it is a double lapper with a stiff climb out of town and no road closure. Prepare to suffer on the bike. Run is flat.
  2. Yeah Caad4, Forrest Gump said: "Stupid is as Stupid does......." I gotta own that one.
  3. Got a roof rack about 3 weeks ago replacing my carrier. William installed it and did a great job So genius here goes and does what belongs in that thread about stupid ass things you do and drives into the garage door with bike on top. Bike trashed, Thule rack suspect, car damaged. Pretty spectacular and I guess I now ticked that box. So I take my car and rack to Thule, Joe one of the guys there tell me: "it's F#cked". William and Joe goes and installs and fixes everything sorts the insurance thing in 20 minutes It is about absolute trust but the fact that everytime I get there but they do things fast and good. These guys are truly the best.
  4. Now reading your questions I realise didnt answer ur questions. So basically wetsuits are rubber with aerated cells. Some have more cells than other in the legs, making them lighter (Like Xterra Vendetta) for triathletes who dont like kicking. But they also need stretch that is where the Yamamoto rubber comes in so it has to be more stretchy at the arms and torso and more neutral in the lower body. So will a better suit make u faster-maybe but it depends on the flexibility in the chest and arms with liteness in the legs so u ride higher in the water and less resistance, but would I pay a lot for like TYR Freak of Nature vs Xterra Vendetta the answer is No, it will not make a hell of a difference. So when u think of that then I would not pay much more but I would invest in a good brand that is value for money and that is where Xterra, Coral and Orca come in. But if I had to choose then for sure Xterra
  5. Terry at Xterra is a great help and the wetsuits are worth it, just adhere to the measurements and if ur unsure size up not down, but u should be able to move comfortably on the ground and in the water the wetsuit should seal between body, water and suit. If water sloshes around inside then its to big. That's why Terry is great-he got my sizing spot on-email him and chat to him. Also heard good things about Orca and got to know the guy who imports the brand on the run during IMSA, ran about the whole marathon with him so had enough time to ask him lots of questions.
  6. This race was by the sounds of it not that great: Water purity issues Death of a competitor on the swim Big crashes Bike Transport And of course the new entry fee mentioned above Just read the Slowtwitch forum and be thankfull for Mr wolfe and his crew here in SA, although no big fan of his referees, IMSA seems a hell of a lot better.
  7. SA's own little Escape from Alcatraz Tri, but looks like there isnt much escaping to do. Nice race for the locals.
  8. @Cavendish U can wash my bike then as well, will make u feel really manly.
  9. Crucnh is high in Sugar but tastes nice, also a worry is apart from the GM stuff, Soy might be great but the process involves a lot of chemicals in general.....But still like the stuff, gonna throw the Chocalte into my recovery drink next time.
  10. When Grant and Tim was still there it was a good store. They also dropped my bike and my Revelation shock got scratched which they refuted. Got Fritz involved and he resolved it and asked me to chat to the manager, he was not oerjoyed so left it. Still go there if my bikeis filthy -they have the best bike washer and Mike has a wicked sense of humor-just go there for him and they are cheap for a wash and Lube
  11. Fortunately I dont suffer from this. But there are a couple of my friends who get this from swimming in open water etc. But I use a colloidal silver spray for cleaning my nasal cavities after a swim in open water or MTB etc. good to keep crap out of your nasal and throat passages in general. I will check my stuff and the supplier and will pm u-otherwise Dischem has colloidal silver products as well. .
  12. Popped in this Morning to quickly check my measurements, thinking I can quickly borrow Aachtar's measuring stuff to confirm my inseam as I couldn't remember....Ashaad immediately helped me with a full measurement then popped it into a computer programme named bikefitting.com. with a printout of my measurements. I told him that they do not stock the brand I was looking for, nonetheless he continued and gave me the same service as if I was about to buy a bike from them. Now that is SERVICE! BTW for the Triathlete's amongst us they have the Profile Aerobtlles for R49.
  13. I guess it's what works for u but suggest the following: Work out your energy requirements per Hour as per Eldron Get stuff that answers that equation-I like Peptopro Sport-Perfect mix of Carbs and Proteins for races only as it is Pricey and tastes like crap. Which brings me to the next point-U need to fuel also so u are able to start the recovery process with what u have used in the last part of the ride. That being said on longer Tri's I end up mostly on Coke and Water the last hour -Wrong I know but works.
  14. He would not have received it yet..normally it is conditional on them being tested and then they are eligible
  15. Run is fine -off road means not on tar so a lot of running on the dirt road and walklways. The Bike there was nothing that I could remember that was too technical, just one crossing that all got off to hike their bikes. Easy course.
  16. mike at SBR did mine, very happy with it
  17. Guys, please tell me what u do with the Photos? I got a couple once for the Mrs to scrapbook with....seems the pets make better Scrapbook subjects. So now I don't waste my time. and If u cant remember it it's probably really not worth recording.
  18. Ah Yeah Cajess, my favourite store (NOT) ......wondered in there against my better judgement and saw the Assos stuff. I use the Sports Detergent, the stuff is the best and lasts forever, so I looked at the Price.....R175 for a bottle, where I get it for R125 any other place....You will have to seriously negotiate for them to drop R50 off. Gotta Luv the audacity though.
  19. U need to work at getting swimfit, meaning there will be some Hypoxic training. So u can start by swimming lengths with breathing every 2nd stroke then lengths breathing every 3rd stroke then every 4th till breathing every 5th stroke. Do it as a pyramid. Also think Swimsmooth will do wonders as you need to get comfortable in the water. Once you are comfortablethe proress will be easy.
  20. @JanMTB I have heard good things about Maxxis Ikon, where do u get them and would u run them front and back on a 29er? What about the 29er Crossmark?
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUkCXh1dWA0
  22. Kevin Garwood and his son Nicholas do the Tri's together, the bike I think he got from Germany het told me once, thing weighs 13kg EXCL his son.
  23. Would like to know the stats of DNF's, DQ etc.
  24. Tough Day, PE crowd was amazing. Saw a guy getting DQed about 1.5km from the finish for outside assistance when his friend (not competitor) ran with him-now that is heartbreaking. I am all for rules but the way the refs talk/shout at athlete's was the only negative.
