Started watching this is us season 5. Quite interesting.. There's covid, the George Floyd video had just been released... All very typical topical. Oh and..I know there's some who watch it on this thread.. Avoid spoilers.. Because there's a biggie in the first double episode!
I switched from a chest strap to the polar optic arm strap. My chest strap used to read about 7 or 8 bpm higher than the optic arm strap and it used to really battle to get a consistent reading early on in the run in the winter months. I've really been impressed with the stability and consistency of the optic arm strap
To be honest my club is very social. We generally just follow a generic plan. You do need to focus on easy warm up first though.. Especially in the cooler months. The more competitive clubs (the other 2 in our area) are very scientific in their approach so I think you would have a far different approach from them
Indeed... I'm fact.. If you're not used to speed work then it's better to do them the other way around 2mi intervals 1mi intervals 800m 400m 200m The shorter distances tend to cause injuries easier
There is just not the market in SA. To be competitive you need to be taking big jumps and step terrain at age 10 already... Then be competing at nationals and then hopping across to other countries nationals. Europe is just they much easier to do that than SA

I would be doing something like Mon easy run Tues speed work Wed increasing distance week on week to 10mi at tempo Thursday high tempo 8 to 10k Fri rest Sat easy Sun long slow increasing to about 25km Do that for 4 to 5 weeks Speed do 200m intervals 400m intervals Then 800m internals Then 2 mi intervals Then 1 mi intervals
What about Sharjah Johnson... Greg's little prodigy? I'm a bit of of touch now but I saw he was racing in worlds. He can't be more than 20 now? Not saying he's gonna be GM level... But could be get a sponsor and compete at a competitive level?
