  9. Cycling with a mate down tikkie draai we came across a cape cobra in the road. We tried getting the bastard to move by spraying it with our water bottles which pissed it off but got the job done till a car drove over it as it was about to sliver into the grass. Oh well, we tried.

  11. That was it. Only at the hotel. got up if I can remember correctly at 04:00 and was in George in the afternoon. Was 20 years ago and the roads were alot quieter then. Thats the days I would do the Argus in 2h42 / 2h48.
  12. When I was 17 I cycled from my parents house in Durbanville to my brothers house in George all along the N2 stopping in Swellendam for a nights sleep.

  17. When I was young(20 years ago), names like Eddy Merckx, Cannondale, Bianchi, De Rosa etc, these bikes were the Ferarri, Lamborghini, 911 Porsche of the times. Now a days you get these bikes at the low end of the bicycle food chain selling for R3999.00 and its sad for me personally to see. I know the recession and bad economy must have had something to do with it where these guys had to come up with a stratergy or run the risk of closing down but its still sad. Now that carbon fibre is widely available it seems every Tom Dick and Harry is producing top end bikes. For instance when I went to go watch the TDF this year there are thousands of cyclists cycling up the mountains before the stage starts and there were so many bike manufacturers coming past, most of which I have not even heard of but they are all good looking bikes with carbon frames and Ultegra or Dura Ace components that you have to ask yourself "is there a bad carbon bike out there?" So going back to the years of 531,753 & SLX frames and Alluminium frames(older cyclists will know what I am talking about...kids dont look so confused) these were the days when only the best bikes were out there because hand built frames was a art and only a handfull of skilled frame builders were able to build them and so you were left to oogle and drool at these machines. Now ofcourse most bikes are made with a "Made in China" sticker at the bottom of your BB. So the question I have is exactly this: Why buy a Dogma worth R85,000.00 when you can buy a Fuji carbon for instance with the same components at R39,999.00? What is in a name anymore?
  18. The "Caravan" of cars and sponsors was mad. They throw things out to everyone. Got Vittel KOM caps, cool drink, BIC products, mags etc. There is no way you wont catch something thrown at you. No, its not me although I will be fit and skinny by next year to ride some routes. Its just that you have to get to the stages atleast 8 hours before the guys get there or the day before as they close the roads early so alot of logistics before hand but will follow more than 2 stages next year.
  19. If you guys have not done this before, do yourself a favour and GO. Absolutely amaizing. The climbs shown through a lense does NO justice. Lets put it this way, for you guys and lady's in the cape, take vissershok and make that climb for 14km x that by the 3 passes they go over and you will get some idea of just how tough these climbs are.
  20. Did 109km/h Slip streaming a truck down lower part of tikie draai once till I hit a nice bump in the road and backed off. Nice rush but could have ended up as road kill, so didnt do that again.
  21. Rave for sure. So I am going to watch 2 stages of the TDF next month and I am super excited. Will be watching stage 18 & 19 and then popping over to watch the German F1 race. Any of you going across to watch any stages?

  23. Falcade - Police carried out a search at the RadioShack team hotel on Monday, according to Giro d'Italia director Angelo Zomegnan. Zomegnan told The Associated Press the search was conducted by officers of Italy's elite NAS police unit during Monday's rest day on the tour. He had no other details. It was unclear if the search was related to the ongoing investigation into Michele Ferrari, a banned Italian physician who was once Lance Armstrong's training adviser. RadioShack team physician Nino Danieli told the Cycling News Web site that police questioned him and searched the team vehicles but that he signed a police statement saying nothing of interest was found. RadioShack team manager Viatcheslav Ekimov said he didn't see what went on. "By the time I came I (found) everyone healthy and without problems, so I guess nothing happened," Ekimov said. "I cannot comment on things that I didn't see." The Police refused to comment. Italian authorities raided the home of RadioShack rider Yaroslav Popovych in November and have been pouring through his phone and computer for information related to Ferrari. The RadioShack team is backed by Armstrong and has the same management in place as when he won the Tour de France seven times when it was called U.S. Postal and Discovery Channel. Armstrong rode for RadioShack until he retired earlier this year. RadioShack team director Johan Bruyneel left the Giro on Sunday, according to Ekimov. Popovych, a Ukrainian, lies 65th overall in the Giro. The highest-placed RadioShack rider is Tiago Machado of Portugal in 24th, 30 minutes, 59 seconds behind race leader Alberto Contador. The race resumes Tuesday with a 12.7-km mountain time-trial. The three-week race ends Sunday in Milan.
