  1. I find one of the best "tools" to be my ears. Get to know the sound of your bike - it's like a diagnostic test on the run. I can hear when my bike is happy and when not.
  2. AAAHh! what a build day - HAIL and -5*C but fun was had by all and a lot was done by the 3 of us! If I can now twist the arms of the powers that be that next build also be spent on Switchbacks we will be able to declare it officially open - meanwhile some of us will be enjoying it. Headshot we have instituted a toll fee and we are waiting for a sixpack x3
  3. Can one DH in Guateng ?? thought you needed a mountain for that. Just a good clean and check wipers on shocks.
  4. GoLefty it looks like generally the thechy stuff also goes downhill. One man's fun is another mans tech. To OP after your expletives - I ask you WHERE does one go for skills training. Here in CT there are no regular skills clinics available.
  5. Correction - we are allowing ourselves to be ripped off by the cycle industry. The Trek Emonda works out at R37 850/kg if say the McLaren Tarmac is of similar weight then it comes in at R47 300/kg This is really a case of less is more. btw I can remember when $1 = 75c (truw)
  6. Just a word of warning. Went tubeless a couple of months ago (home job - great). Got a leak on Saturday in Tokai - one knobbly tore off and it would not seal from inside. Take out spare tube from backpack. Small problem - nut on tubeless valve stem TOO tight to loosen by hand and Leatherman at home. 30mins too get valve out. King of FLATS!
  7. Where do you get the R1500 from? Just remember tjoepless is not faultless.
  8. Headshot you will be joining us and I'm not just presuming that.
  9. Serious!!! There was a bike-jacking near Llandudno just before the Argus - same method same time of day - wonder if it is the same group. The authorities HAVE to do something about these cases. Hiker killed in mountains above Kalk Bay two days ago - robbery.
  10. It is no different on a motorbike it is just not as pronounced. The only difference is the source of power the rest is all the same.
  11. Goose - Brian Lopes on pg 90 says "High speeds require it" and not "It requires high speed" Fabian46 you have been countersteering all your life every time you intentionally turned a corner whether on a motorbike or on a bicycle you just don't realise it - period!
  12. droo - would an older cable have more "stretch" like a rubber bant in it?
  13. To turn a bike at ANY speed you HAVE to countersteer - you might not even realise it and that is on any surface. It has to do with changing your CG. If you want to turn left you steer to the right to shift your CG to the left side of your bike - the moment that happens you steer to the left so as bring the bike in underneath you again but you control by how much so as to keep a curve as soon as you want to straighten out you turn an extra little bit to the left so as to get the bike under your CG and all is centred. Have you ever worked out why you cannot keep your bike on the yellow line on the road - it's because you are always "falling" and you have to correct your CG all the time by bringing the bike in underneath you. In a corner you are "falling" all the time but you control the rate at which you are falling. To change your CG it is best to ride the bike out from underneath you but you correct again at a rate. "Going to get SHOT for this but double flame suite on!"
  14. It is sad that the main reason for joining PPA seems to be the discount benefit.
  15. Capricorn - one learns something everyday. Kashima is derived from namazu!!
  16. ??? Do Alfa brakes squeal?!
  17. 29er rim will fit on the same hub - longer spokes!
  18. Depends on how much money you've got for servicing!!
  19. Cap you clearly don't cross roads blindly but you still cross them. It is safer riding Tokai bridle than getting onto any road - for certain. Just saying Come and join me - I have a theory - it is my theory and this theory is mine and not by Anne Elk. Last year we had extensive landslides here in Hout Bay spread out over the whole valley also in the Du Toit's Kloof area and some other. We had extensive rains leading to saturated soils. The strange thing is that ALL the landslides (including Tokai) all happened on the same night which leads me to believe there must have been some (mild) seismic activity that triggered them if not they would have occured over a period of weeks. (btw There was some seismic activity recorded in the Boland last week).
  20. Capricorn - it's rideable - go and enjoy it - just don't do it on your own. If it is your time it is your time!
  21. I am not trying to start a 26er vs 29er debate, but just wanted to share my experience. You just did!! Not the 1st Not the last I just enjoy riding my bike!
  22. Now i know it's Friday damn I thought it was Monday today! Capricorn it's a good time to work there and as has been said some are already riding it! There are no visible signs of any imminent or future slippage - last year we had record rainfall in June and August with saturated soil hence the slides. But do come join us.
  23. Hilton --- No chance of collision and no chance of riding up it either. (watch someone tell me you can ride up it - alouett did not ask you)
  24. Tell me you DID NOT try ride the bridle path from the bottom up !!! I think we need to have a talk!
  25. Just put the Mavic Cross Ride Rim on the existing hub.
