  1. There is no ride like it in the world.
  2. I would check up on the criminal record thing as riding on the mountain (even at night) is not a criminal offence. It would be a civil case.
  3. 120km/h on certain sections of Chappies can be done (on Hout Bay side of the peak)
  4. Remember it is 1m clearance not 1,5m. Max speed anywhere on Chappies is 40km/h Also had an issue on Chappies with a 4x4 and young blonde male driver on Chappies a little while ago - had a CX plate You should have laid a charge of reckless driving at the Hout Bay SAPS they love that kind of thing.
  5. Giant Trance X2 650b without a doubt!!
  6. "Aquatubes" latest technology. Fill your tyres with water (like they do with tractors)
  7. It is as do-able as you are able. You are as able as you do.
  8. You're not serious! Serialissly?
  9. Wheelsize MATTERS! Wheelsize is not determined by how tall you are. Wheelsize is determined by what type of riding you do.
  10. If it ain't oil it ain't lube. Period. If you are really snoep you can get some sump oil from your local garage - put a small rare earth magnet in it and let it stand for a week and pour off. Best and cheapest multi-grade. Use often. Every second ride. Best tip - once in a while remove chain and clean in diesel or terps and hang up to dry. Nothing leaves a chainring mark like oil - hell some people pay a fortune to have it tattoo'd on the calf.
  11. Some weeks ago I had that spoke protector plastic ring thinghy between hub and sprockets dislodge and jammed between the hub/spokes and sprockets - could not freewheel (thought my freewheel body had gone.
  12. Never say it can't be done - someone on thehub would have done it. Contact droo

    Gear Ratios

Get yourself a used chain and try out each back gear individually ans see which one you prefer. You will have to change the length of the chain for each gear.
  14. Get yourself some Avids - they would not do that. Yes you can service calipers (good ones) Google is your friend
  15. Law states that driving/riding is to be on the right of the yellow line - to the left of the yellow line is the "emergency lane" Law also states that you may not use a cell phone while in control of a vehicle (includes bicycle) unless you have a hands free kit. - law also says that both hands must be on the handlebar at all times. Those cyclists are in breech of the law because they are on the wrong side of the lellow line. I would not have issue with them for riding next to each other where they are riding. If it's safe for them thats a different issue. But then you could be riding single track - fall and break your neck like last Monday in Tokai - it's stupid to ride there as it is not safe and then you nogal go and do it on your own - now that's stupid. We need to ride safe but we also need to chill.
  16. 1st Saturday of the month is build day - I'm sure we can arrange for you to take some clippers and do some trimming.(I will assist)
  17. I'm going to get shot for this! For a first bike I would buy 2nd hand no more than R5k. Get used to riding - see if you like riding - and what kind of riding you prefer. Set yourself some goals. Then go get yourself the kind of bike you want and park your 2nd hand bike next to the bin (or sell it at about the same price) I know of more seriously good bikes "in storage" than on the road/trail.
  18. Keep them as is - original! Those bikes are a bit like red wine - they need a bit more aging before their value goes up.
  19. If you feel that the B and C line does not add enough of a penalty why take the A line and add to the risk factor. It is all about choice of line you either add risk or time. You were free to choose the chicken run but chose the A line with only a 3sec advantage.
  20. Scotty No DO no GO. Theory does not fix punctures - practice does. I am "GATVOL" of helping cyclists who can't help themselves. Have come across cyclists with seriously expensive (drool stuff) bikes but cant fix the most basic puncture. Best is when they have tjoepless ..."but I did not think I would get a puncture!" Please make sure your friend does fix a gaatjie.
  21. So did you buy it? Have a picture?
  22. Anyone in poobear's area - connect with him and show him how it's done. Basic set-up and how it's done (like gear changing etc. and fix a puncture ens.)
  23. Best is to fit new hub.
