  1. Min 120mm travel on fork!
  2. I care if you wear a helmet or not!! If you do have a serious accident someone else has to look after you for the rest of your life. I know of an elderly man looking after his son because of an accident. There are enough people in our hospitals who need full time care because of motorbike accidents etc. But we are invincible it will never happen to us - bunch of prigs. There is no debate or opinion - Helmets make a difference!
  3. Helmets optional?! Why are we even discussing this? - Really ! OP's first post was a question about noticing an increase in riders not using a helmet.
  4. You don't want a sole pattern with big knobs but a more even small patterned sole. I think this thread should be renamed to "Need to move from cleats to flats, what do I need" or "How to enjoy flats"
  5. Thicker socks
  6. Remember every story has at least two sides to it and then there is the truth.
  7. Is this a question!
  8. You're not going to be faster or slower - it's more about confidence and what would that equate to? More confidence - more fun - greater risks - ends up to the same amount of spills in the end but a better rider (flaaaame suite on)
  9. I have a set of BBB flats at about R300 and a pair of Hi-Tec Figaro's with Vibram sole for R600 - works for me sometimes too grippy. A very stiff sole helps but remember the flats have a large "surface" area so no big deal. Soles that "round" into the uppers tend to be more comfortable and don't get in the way like a wide soled running shoe
  10. Ask anyone who has used a dropper if they would part with it. But hey this thread is not about droppers. Breaker is also the first I know who wants to change from flats to cleats but by his own admission what does he know not having tried cleats before - so fair enough he needs to try them Please do not confuse "beartraps" with "flats" !! not the same the one bites badly - I know.
  11. Oh! for a dislike button
  12. "Actually I couldn't care " But you clearly do - the only reasons you give are linked to opinions of others or what they think of you. It all depends on what kind of riding you do - do a bit of research on the net plenty of pro and con articles then decide. I changed to flats on the mountain - I'm faster, smoother and my technique is better. I'm far more daring and having much more fun. For XC I would put on cleats. Google "Flat Pedal Revolution Manifesto" or go to www.bikejames.com - some really good reading Rather spend the money on a dropper post - you will begin to fly!
  13. Keep in mind the thread heading is a "statement" not a question. (just fix the spelling though)
  14. braailegend - I was all over my brakes - feathering so as not to lock up rear brakes if that happened I would have been under her car. Not much rubber on the road when running 23C's at 8 bars. There was no chance to even think of "right of way" and even less to consider it. Bike is ok just had to do some re-alignment. As for chapter 2 - I just told her to get in her car and go - any more comments from her and I would have lost it. Just got to watch anxiety as an incident like this can bite you sometime afterwards. Had a bad one some years ago - took me about 18 months to get completely over it. This one by comparison is minor
  15. So I get taken out by car today. Just come down Chappies into Hout Bay Main Rd. on level doing about 35km/h near entrance to Shoprite and woman in oncoming lane decides to turn right (no stop 1st) while looking AT me - keeps on going. You know the feeling - everything slows down - remember to feather the rear brake - see if you can go round behind her - SHE STOPS - heart stops - no more options. Hit back door onto roof down hatch tar waiting - remember relax don't tense up - roll on tar. Sprawled. How I don't know but all still intact! Woman gets out of car and come up to me lying on my back "Are you alright?" She then says to me "Why did you carry on going when you saw me turning?" Me utterly dumbstruck!
  16. DON'T even think of it - PPA will disqualify you and ban you for life. Used to be a big thing in the past and there were more than just a few who did it until PPA put a stop to it! Dont ask me why - who knows. Why not let them do it - most would be experienced riders. As for FRAIL doing it 4x last year - Nah! If he did each one in 3hrs that means 12hrs in the saddle - NAH!
  17. +3 from here that makes 5
  18. Cap there is a clear jeep track that starts on the NW edge of the housing area above the harbour.(GoogleEarth) But dont be tempted - as you go up you are in full view of the residential areas and the gangs.
  19. When did they do clearing there. I would love to go up there again - but no go area - SECURITY Same with the Hout Bay / Sandy Bay / Llandudno area. Maybe we could organise a group ride as in 12 plus riders over a weekend (rich pickings if they have fire-arm which is a possibility)
  20. And I recall dreams/ideas/talks of a trail all the way round the mountain.
  21. AS above or otherwise a bit of rubbing compound - fine or medium or first try rubbing with damp cloth with some course salt.
  22. Please explain to me. If you had R40k to spend on a bike why on earth would you need to ask on a forum for advice - surely by now you know something about bikes and might even have some dreams about what you want. Or is there some other reason? (flame suite on)
  23. Grego12 - Once you have removed the Avids and replaced them can I come round and collect them so I can recycle them please. I mean you would not sell such dangerous items on to someone else to use.(would you?) ( I actually do want them )
  24. Hi! my name is Peter and I have Avid brakes.
