  1. Definitely more secure under load / braking and improves stiffness / tracking of teh front end. Weight penalty is negligible if any at all. Downside is hub interchangeability but this is improving all the time as more manufacturers move to 9mm/15mm convertors. It's really helped that Rock Shox now offer the 15mm standard so it's no longer just a Fox / Shimano thing.
  2. Go there for the best price - not for the best advice...
  3. Price and weight for a Large please
  4. Much prefer the black & white one - classic!
  5. Let's do another: Ellsworth Truth SST 2011 frame (from www.wrenchscience.com in US) - USD2,295.00 Add - Shipping - USD 250.00 Exchange Rate (conservative) - USD1.00 = ZAR7.50 Add VAT @ 15% Landed Cost - ZAR21,950.00 (give or take a few cents) Buycycle.co.za price - R25,100.00 "Premium" for buying local = R3,105.00 - or 14% Now this is just one example. How is it possible that a private individual can import a frame, paying full retail US price and obtaining no economies of scale on shipping and still save 14% on the local price? Rhetorical question but you get the idea...
  6. Stands to reason that biger sizes will be heavier. My Trance X with full XT set-up tubeless, thomson seatpost & stem and monkeylite bars weighs about 12.7kg - but its a large. Most of the pics above are far from mid-range, off-the-peg bikes.
  7. Bugger - "Bloody Agent" American dictionaries...
  8. Perhaps this has been discussed before (too lazy to check) but why just stickers? Why not apparel as well?
  9. dual (not comparable) Characterized by having two (usually equivalent) components.Double. duel (plural duels) Combat between two persons, often over a matter of honor.A struggle between two contending persons, groups or ideas.
  10. IMO the local distributor argument is a red herring. As the agent/distributor for a global brand it shouldn't matter where the saddle was purchased - in SA, on CRC or on the moon. The local distributor should ensure that any local returns are sent back to Fizik in Italy and the process is paid for by the manufacturer. Perhaps the better option would be to try and contact Fizik direct? Also - I would imagine that a 1% failure rate would be too high and would warrant a recall - just ask Toyota. The damage that this kind of thing can do to a brand is huge.
  11. What a lot of horseXXXX - "take the unit back to the store where the bike or unit was purchased from, with original POP" - I mean c'mon! I realise that in SA we tend to get screwed with ridiculous returns policies like the response above but this is beyond the pale. The units are obviously breaking so, instead of trying to weasel out of responsibility with a stupid return policy, just replace the units and ensure that we continue to purchase (and recommend) fizik saddles. As someone said above, who the hell keeps their receipt for a saddle??
  12. I also really hate Mondays...
  13. Mine didn't crack but the cover material came "unglued" on the underside. I know I can reglue it but this shouldn't happen - saddle was 3 months old at the time... Back to the Selle Italia which is more comfortable anyway.
  14. I'm not so sure that uis cyclists have a "moral obligation" to other cyclists / road users at all - other than to conduct ourselves in a manner that complies with common road etiquette and laws. Personally I always ride with a helmet on but I also resent being told / reminded / advised what to do by other people when something really doesn't have anything to do with them at all. Having said that, it does sound like the guys reaction was extreme and uncalled for.
  15. I don't think it's just the Pro Peleton - ALL professional sports have the same skeleton in the cupboard.
  16. Can't go wrong with Giant - - Straight cross country - Anthem X1 or X2 (probably X2 in the price range you specified) - XC / Trail - Trance X1 or X2 (more travel) My next bike is going to be the Anthem X 29er - beautiful and must be the best value for money FS 29er out there...
  17. Condolences to her family and friends - what a very sad day.
  18. I've never had hassles with Stans - no crystals, even with using bombs (and I'm no genius)...
  19. In the absence of common courtesy some form of moderation is both necessary and desirable IMHO. Short of having a poll on every issue and statement imaginable, moderation will be both subjective and selective. I suppose if the moderation becomes too extreme or selective, members will move on and perhaps another hub will develop...
  20. What a mare! The amount of "extra" duty I paid isn't worth the hassle of trying to adjust and claim back - typical SARS
  21. It happened to me on the order I received last week. Not sure how to claim the cash back though. Perhaps we shoudl petition CRC to deduct the discount on a line-by-line basis?
  22. Santa Cruz Tallboy Large Frame
  23. Nice idea - especially in the light of this article - http://www.thedailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/2010-11-23-the-cycling-mafia-strikes-again
