  1. Many thanks to those who gave their wisdom and knowledge. To those who suggested the root cause was...headset. Well it was loose but not the cause. Chain-rings? Could have been tighter but also not root cause. Saddle? Bingo! Just enough lack of tension in the seat post bolts to allow the saddle to creak. Many thanks again...long live BikeHub!
  2. Hang on okes...headset felt loose (swore I checked that already...) so have tweaked. Test ride later this arvie...will feedback. PS road bike!
  3. Seated or standing. And any gear or perceived torque, unless I pedal very gently, then the noise goes away.
  4. I have one of those annoying noises which I think is BB related. Diagnosis so far include: 1. I've spun the cranks by hand, with the chain removed to check for dead-spots, grinding etc. Nothing. 2. Pushed and pulled the pedals laterally across the frame to look for play. Nothing. 3. Pulled the cranks and checked the bearings for lateral play with my fingers. Nothing. Before a trip to my LBS, what else could I check? Thanks in advance for the help...

  6. I don't have SRAM so can't give a specific answer but when I was looking to fit 9/10 speed shimano to (ironically) my X, Google had lots of articles on compatability of components. Worth a search?
  7. Endura Xtract roubaix l/s jersey is very good. Cycle lab used to stock. Base Layer, Endura and perhaps a gilet and the cradle is a happier place in winter.
  8. Very smart looking X. Not as smart as mine though...????
  9. My bars are subtly flared at 12.5 degs I think. That gives me 46cm between the hoods yet 52cm between the tips of the bar ends. I've found that the best of both worlds, road-like on the hoods yet a little more open in the shoulders in the drops. Also very useful for clearance for a bar bag or roll bag.
  10. I doubt my 30 sec power matches her 1 hour...????
  11. The vegan-friendly status starts to be eroded if certain processing aids are used e.g. gelatin and isinglass. Some would argue that as yeast is a single-celled organism that its use in brewing is non-vegan but it's a weak argument.
  12. ...at the end of the nut?
  13. Friends of Suikerbosrand on Facebook suggest R40 per adult and R30 per car as of yesterday.
  14. Anyone have a streaming site for today's race?
  15. Snap!
  16. Scroll back to 1444 yesterday. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/187957-cyclists-attacked-in-muldersdrift/?do=findComment&comment=3760399
  17. Didn't Farr have a fork for R3k-ish or was I dreaming? https://ridefarr.com/int/product-category/forks/
  18. Plenty of okes on the Hub who have done solo tours...a bit of prep is all that's required. Wouldn't know about a record...
  19. Bizarre article! Worth vs target...????
  20. Sounds like a good deal. I've had 2 Xeniths...both have cracked on the seat stay (one at the join with the seat tube and the other at the brake bridge). Worth checking very carefully there. Not saying they all crack but if I was buying, I'd be looking. Good news, they're a nice bike!
  21. Hermanus to Caledon on the H en A tar road is a great ride but I hope you like hills... Or on your gravel bike ride the H en A road and then turn left (after a steep pull and just before a dam) on the Karwyderskrall (sp?) Road which is gravel at that point and ride until you hit a T-junction on tar and then ride back to Hermanus. Incidentally the tar Karwyderskrall road to Botrivier is very pretty and quiet.
  22. I did see a group of workers yesterday (?) sweeping up sand from the cycle lane on Beyers (west side just past Walkhaven). But despite this, people should step up and offer to help upkeep a facility that one uses.
  23. A group of Hubbers did some hedge trimming on the Caves road (last year). It is amazing get how much can be done in a couple of hours if even 5 people pitch in. I'd be happy to help with a road clean-up.
  24. Post of the day! Chapeau!!
