  1. Karl and I have been helping peeps across there since 2014. If you go with him you'll be guaranteed a good location and solid knowledge on everything from where to ride and what bike shops have what. Perfect for a first timer. The last trip we did He organized the Rockest of the rockstar spots literally 200m from the Pleney lift. We've stayed in some sick spots but that one was the best.
  2. My other half and I have moved into our new spot together after 6 years of me bouncing between her place and my flat. When I was airbnb'ing my place I had a photographer come and take styly shots. We used those to list. My buyer wanted a fully furnished so my spot sold with furniture. I took out my personal effects such as coffee mugs and prezies from travels and pics from our trips. Both of our places sold within days of each other at exactly the prices the agent said they would sell at. The place we bought is/was high end. The previous owner bought in 2007 and did a massive renovation. It's all very high end but the place has been rented out for the last 5 years at least. So it's ruined and needs a LOT of work. ** Is it just me or is anyone else put off by a half toilet roll a bit unraveled in pics.? I HATE that. I do love a cat on a bed pic. Makes the place seem more homey.
  3. I'll never forget my first day on Pleney. My bike never showed up in Geneva and I decided I'd just roll around town and wait for it. As we pulled into Morz and I saw the little white bubbles going up the hill I told my crew I'M RENTING A BIKE. I rode in jeans and borrowed damp kneepads. I rented a bag of bolts and threw it down the hill. The fork was crap and the brakes sucked but OMG what an afternoon! What struck me was how incredibly steep it was compared to the stuff we have here. Let me say this in no uncertain terms. An afternoon on Pleney is worth the 25-30k you'll pay for 10 days of riding there. The rest is just cream. If you're strong and you have good brakes you can easily pump out 20 runs a day on the Plen. I've heard of pros doing 30+ in a day.
  4. Claris is Shimano's bottom of the range groupset. It's 8 speed but don't let that put you off. My other half rode up Monte Grappa on the 2015 version of that bike. without complaint. Ok there was quite a lot of complaining but that wasn't any fault of the bike. 105 is the "entry level" 11 speed road groupset. Shimano SLX would be it's MTB equivalent. For 12k you might get a 2nd hander with 105 and a carbon fork. Like a Merida 903. Cannondale Caad. But the 105 you get might not be 11 speed. It might be an older gen which would be 10 speed.
  5. I bounce between Zwift, Rouvy and Sufferfest. For training proper I rate Sufferfest the best of those 3. I like Rouvy coz I like to "recce" routes that I'm hoping to ride in the future. I was super into Zwift during lockdown but I just can't anymore. I try to time my changeover for a specific day so I don't pay for both subscriptions.
  6. You live in the best part of SA to do a bit of road riding. And you can definitely get a good 2nd hander in your budget. Just check the model year against the google images of the bike model as some people are not always honest about what you are buying. Road bike don't get hammered like Mountain Bikes so whatever you get will most likely be in good condition Or you could go sparkly and new and get this. https://www.giantdurbanville.co.za/za/contend-3-2021 I'm 172 on a good day and I'm on a 54 which is too big for me. So a 54 would be far too big for you. I'm guessing something in the 50-52 range. Some other advice. Just commit and get bibs.
  7. Mmmm. I like the idea but there's 4 wetsuits plus hoodies, booties, gloves and surf towels that need to be accommodated. That weight will tear anything straight off of a door. This is Cape Town brah. The water is chillos here. I'm just going to rig up 2 shelving gubbins and a few hangers. Job done. Just to find the time. Between my job, the garden, hanging pictures and the constant stream of friends and family popping round to offer free (to them) tips on what renovations we need to do it's been a struggle. I ordered a new board and it's been waiting patiently for me at a mates place for more than a week now. He say's it feels really nice under the arm and it's super light seeing as it's made from old Styrofoam cups.
  8. Heading in the right direction. This was Sunday just before a Rouvy session. Some negotiation had to happen with the significant other even tho when we bought the place this area was promised to me as my man cave. The WIFI is pretty dire in there so I'm going to have to get a range extender. I still need to find a solution for the wetsuits and there's a shelf in a cupboard full of my old and current fullface helmets. In the toilet I've done a hook setup for running and cycling shoes and helmets. Also not strictly paincave related but my double cab juuuuuust fits into the garage so that sleeps outside.
  9. I just moved house. This is the garage. Still lots of work to do but this is the general area. Ignore the ironing board.
  10. Very cool and slightly odd place. The Owl house was creepy as fk but the microbrewery was
  11. The Opel had a unique safety feature. As soon as you stomped on the gas it would torque steer straight into the nearest hedge.
  12. HEY NOW! Easy on the Sierra fella. Those are a bit of a classic.
  13. Ok then it wasn't me. I ran (more sort of a shuffle/limp) yesterday
  14. Was I looking fit & athletic? Dude. A proper big well constructed fence. Moertoe. Chip packets and dogshit EVERYWHERE!!! If you go hiking and you enjoy nature surely you aren't the type of person who chucks his niknaks packet and coke bottle in the bush???? Sorry for the hijack.
  15. We walked from suikerbossie to orangekloof fence last week. apart from the 67 dog turds on the path (yes I counted) The fence is totally fubar. It's too much of a ballache to get a legal access so we'll just break the fence down so we can enjoy the nature. Namaste. People are Erseholes. Regarding the servitude question. The answer is in the name. It needs to remain accessible for servicing. It's not a free to access thing. If it is a servitude the owner can close it up but it has to be accessible via a gate so whatever infrastructure exits there can be serviced. I know this because I had a mini sub station on my previous property. Regarding the closing of that road. That's very surprising to me. I've been a resident of HB for a number of years and there have always been rumblings of Bay road being used as a 2nd access road to HB. That's pretty much the primary reason I didn't buy in bokkemans kloof.
  16. The city doesn't even fill potholes anymore mate.
  17. I don't normally punt something just because I have one so take this from whence it comes. For the front my other half and I both have a have a Giant Recon HL500. Super duper happy with it. It also clips to a gopro mount so in the winter time we run with them clipped to a gopro chesty. They cost around R500. A rand a lumen. I'm told a car headlight is about 750. I don't know how long it lasts but it's more than enough for our 80km round the point rides. I'd guess around 4 hours. The mount is so unobtrusive that they just live on the bikes. For the rear i have a cheap as chips Ryder. But don't be fooled it's bright as feck. My lady has the Giant TL100. It's neat coz you can get a clip that clips it directly to your chair. But then you can't run a saddlebag. I struggle to understand how someone can spend BIG THOUSANDS on a bike but then doesn't buy even a little Ryder rear light that weighs 10 grams for R150
  18. pft. Peasant! I bought a G Wagon and then had Brabus give it the once over. The normal Benz is so last season.
  19. Wow. Only 100k more expensive than a KTM 450 SX. Which produces, you know. 60+ BHP Has a hydraulic clutch electric start WP suspension Brembo brakes etc.
