  1. Are you perhaps on a Giant? The maestro suspension system doesn't like square hits like roots.
  2. Just stress and being run down I guess. 2020 was a rough year. *Edit. Shingles is basically the adult version of the chickenpox virus. You have to have had chickenpox as a child to get shingles. Technically it is contagious but you have to touch the popped blisters with an open wound which is unlikely and the infected person will get chickenpox not shingles. It manifests as little blisters and then scabs (much like chickenpox). Generally it happens on one side of the body on your chest/under arm area. It can happen on your face and can cause permanent eye damage if it gets there. In my case it was on my neck and up into my hair behind my ears. Initially I thought it was an insect bite. It's unbelievably painful. It feels like someone is putting a cigarette out on your skin. It's caused by stress and/or having a compromised immune system.
  3. On my neck and into my hairline behind my ear. Not fun
  4. The worst was putting on a wetsuit with a hoodie. Fingers on a chalkboard * 10. When we were at SA's my bird dragged me out for a 5k run. That and the shingles and freezing water with a wetsuit and the weskus. It was.... Challenging.
  5. I know it sounds lame. Shingles. Pft. But it was so so painful. My skin is still sensitive in some areas.
  6. I did my first 10k yesterday since getting Shingles in October. We ran from HB to Noordhoek. I bribed my step daughter with a coffee and ice-cream to come pick us up. I felt pretty good. That road NEVER EVER get's old. I've ridden ridden in the Alps, Dolomites and on Mallorca so I can say with a fair amount of authority that it is a truly special piece of road.
  7. This reminds me of the day(s) I was running on chappies. Taking myself very seriously. 3k shoes coz I have an overpronation issue. GPS watch to measure all my metrics. Oakley sunnies to protect my eyes. And a dude comes rolling past in a pair of Converse All star. The Hightops.
  8. You are something of an exception to the rule. It helps that you have a bunch of camera sluts for friends too.
  9. Thing is. When you are on a bike you already feel vulnerable. And when someone hoots you **** yourself.
  10. Yassas. First time on an MTB since October. The Glen is not a good place for a return!
  11. Bit of this yesterday arvo.
  12. I did indeed. No helping people who's longest ever ride was 20km to make it round this year! IT'S ON!
  13. Hahaha. Truthfully I got a medal last year but I was so kerk slow that I wasn't listed in the results!
  14. As a precaution I'm going to cycle with my CTCT finishers medal to prove that I'm a pro.
  15. Yup. Same camp. Tamboti. On the dry river bed. Possibly the same Hyena even. Apparently they make the drain pipes their home. It came up to the fence twice. That pic I took and when I was braaing 2m from the fence. They ask visitors to report sighting of Southern Ground Hornbill. We saw 4 cruising that river bed. If we had more time I'd have just parked off on the stoep of that tent with a frosty and binoculars and watched the show from sunrise to sunset. We spent 4 nights in the Kruger in 4 different camps. I'd never been as an adult and I let my other half and her daughter pick the camps. She even paid for that part of the trip. In fact they did the driving and I was LITTERALY a passenger in the kruger for the 4 days. We stayed at Byameti, Skukuza, Tamboti and Mopani. For me the winner was Tamboti. Hands down.
  16. Hey all. My little family and I have just gotten back from a 4000km road trip to Kruger and back. We had planned a trip to France for June but Covid put a stop to that. So to scratch our travel itch we put together a little road trip for the 3 of us. Hout Bay Port Alfred Ballito Malelane into the Kruger 4 nights in the Kruger Out of the Kruger at Phalaborwa Clarens (actually a farm between Bethlehem and Fouriesburg) Uniondale Hout Bay Port Alfred was great. We couldn't hit the beach so we had a swim in the Kowie. Loved that. Ballito was great. I love the KZN coast. We saw some amazing things in the Kruger including Leopard, White Lion, A MASSIVE bull elephant, an African Crown eagle. I got to sit on my parents memorial bench at Orpen. I had a Hyena 2m from me whilst I was braaing our dinner. But the thing that really struck me was how utterly stunning our amazing country is. I've been consistently heading for Europe for the last 10 years on my annual break but this trip has made it far more difficult to book those tickets. The ever changing terrain makes for a beautiful beautiful country. People are friendly and the accommodation that we stayed in was next level. From a tent in the Kruger, a stone house on a game farm in Uniondale to a Super High end rockstar villa in Ballito. What a place!
  17. Yissie. Inside the reserve nogal. If you can't be chilled and happy in there then you have some serious issues.
  18. Just my theory. I ain't no expert. From a pure power perspective I think it's to do with the rotation of your hips and where your sit area is in relation to the bb. More stretched out = further forward = making more wattages. Question is do you want to spend all day on a torture rack? If you look at the roadies the trend is for shorter bikes and longer slammed stems. Totally the opposite to MTB. I'm sure there's someone on here who actually knows the reasons.
  19. So.... I know I'm getting old so my eyes can't be trusted but did I see Kelly Slater riding a double wing swallow tail twin fin at Pipeline?
  20. The fenders don't even follow the same arc as the wheel. What an utterly KUK job!
  21. Tried some streetlight intervals this morning. Apart from needing to teach my bird the difference between a surge and a sprint it went well. Totally obliterated myself in 30 minutes and a new max HR value. * Edit. I'm finally feeling strong again after battling for a month with shingles. Really a kuk thing. It's caused by stress and having a compromised immune system. It feels like you are being burned by a cigarette constantly. Took an anti viral for a week and then had to just hang tough. I applied weed oil topically which helped a lot. The skin sensitivity is still there but the fatigue is gone.
  22. Pay the Village Hub a visit. It's in Scarbourough. Some hand made bicycles by Dave Stubbs (local surfboard shaper) and the owner is a big cyclist. There's also a deli in Kommetjie with a nice little coffee shop.
  23. A few more snappies from SA's I think I'm gonna frame a few with my medal to show my grandkids. I don't have kids so grandkids seem unlikely but you never know.
  24. Was this Tuesday? All y-all came past me when I was "running" on Beach Road.
