  1. DJE, that is a 2006 model. You might be better off buying a second hand frame. You will battle to get a frame. There is a guy in Uitenhage that took on a lot of Raleigh stuff from Probike when Raleigh ditched them. He might, by some miracle have something. I will see if I can get his number for you, but can't make promises.
  2. Won't it be cool....... the Cape Argus headline read "Nolan Hoffman beats the Manx Missile"
  3. Brilliant news. Glad to see some investment in road racing
  4. Thanks.......will definitely check it out.
  5. Anybody know of any trails in Port Alfred that are safe. I will probably be riding alone.
  6. You beat me to it........ Is he involved in LMP1...........I'm a big sports car fan and having him in a Le Mans car will only benefit that catagory
  7. Thanks for all the tips. I managed to get it right. I put on a pair of those magnifying specs that make everything look10 times bigger than it really is and shined a torch from under the caliper so I could see exactly where it was rubbing. I ever so gently moved the caliper around until there was no touching.
  8. I tried something similar, but tightened both bolts at the same time. Perhaps I should do one at a time.
  9. I did check and can't see anyhting with the naked eye. The "scratching sound" is even
  10. You could be on to something there. I must check, I never thought of that.
  11. I fitted new calipers to my MTB and I am battling to align the front one with the rotor. No matter what I do, the rotor seems to rub against the brake. Either the left pad or the right. Does anybody have any tips on how to align these stupid things?
  12. I'm doing the 10km with my 6 year old. He is so exited and has been counting the days. I also cannot wait to ride with.
  13. I used to love Dan's Diary in Ride. Despite being a damn good cyclist, he was a gifted writer too. I wish they would bring him back. Would love to hear the inside stories at Europcar.
  14. I had a set of Kinlin wheels on an Avalanche bike I bought in 2001. Those wheels weighed a ton (literally) and I never heard of the brand again.
  15. Shouldn't the warranty also cover the paint cracking?
  16. Axis are good value for money. Probably one of the best in terms of value. You can't go wrong.
  17. A lot of people are talking about Gorilla Tape........what is Gorilla Tape? is it a type of duct tape? I kept getting punctures in the same spot on my road bike and I realised the rim strip wasn't doing its job. I stuck some normal duct tape at that spot and haven't had a problem yet.
  18. They interviewed Doug Ryder on Supercycling and he said that he was doing his best to re-sign Reinardt JVR.
  19. I went through a similar exercise. I battled to find a thru adaptor to fit the Giant wheels. They are apparently brand specific (or so I was told). I ended buying the same Alex rims that you mentioned and they are probably on par with the Giant in terms of quality.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, if a trader sells a second hand bike, he is obliged under the Consumer Act to warrant that the bike will have no defects (unless he pointed them out to you) for 6months. This does not apply to private sellers. Individuals on the Hub cannot state that the bike comes with a warranty, because most manufacturers do not warranty the second owner. Nothing stops the individual from offering his own warranty though.
  21. You people cannot make assumptions and start accusing someone of selling a stolen bike. There are plenty of Scotts out there, all with similar colour schemes and specs.
  22. I have never heard of Oryx. is there website or something that you know of. Also is there any form of warranty or after sales service with it? Are you sure about the Axis specs as the A60 was not speced with anything Deore and If I recall, the Axis also came out with mecanical discs, not hydraulic. Also I cannot agree with Raydec regarding Scott's after sales service. There have been enough complaints about it on the Hub. Considering the spec you have quoted, I would also take the 29er.
  23. Those frames retailed at R13k new. So I rekon, you'll probally get R6k for it.
  24. If you want to go the second hand route, try and buy from a shop that specialises in 2nd hand bikes. If you are new to the sport, you may end up with wrong size or get dupped by an unscrupulous seller. At least the shop will make sure the bike you get will be set up correctly (the wrong set up will chase you away from cycling forever) and they are trust worthy. There are some shops that advertise here regularly, the other Hubbers will help you locate a shop in your area.
