  1. Quality wise, Silverback is right up there with the best. The new Scalera is the sexiest thing out there.
  2. Read through these and then decide if you still want a Scott. By the way, the warranty does not pass to the second owner. Don't buy a second hand Scott, it could be costly https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/135538-ive-scott-a-problem/page__hl__scott+spark https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/133221-scott-spark-29-epic-failure/page__hl__scott+spark https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/130412-scott-and-pro-bike-very-dissapointing/page__hl__scott%20spark https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/126858-scott-spark-29-elite-frame-cracked-2-times/page__hl__scott+spark
  3. When riding with people around you.........the most important thing is to hold your line.
  4. By the way, he has already appologised twice!
  5. I share your pain. Back in 2007 I was also training for Ironman. Got hit from behind by an old man in a bakkie and ended up with a broken pelvis. I have never tried again to do Ironman, just too lazy. The only good that came out of it was a brand new Specialized Tarmac courtesey of his employers insurance. At least you have next year to do it.
  6. Too old?...........we have an 88 year old at our cycling club
  7. Post this in the wanted section of the classified, you will get plenty of responses as there are lots of guys selling their bikes.
  8. ......
  9. Campag Eurus......you should get them new for your budget. Campag parts must be paired with Campag wheels
  10. Nolan Hoffman won the Argus a few weeks ago on one. So, I rekon they are pretty good.
  11. I doubt it is aluminium, it is probably steel with a chrome coating. If this is the case, take a piece of tin foil, scrunch it up and rub the part as if you are sand papering it. It won't be perfect, but will be much better than before.
  12. Maxis Detonators............they are pretty cheap and last forever.
  13. So.....he is about to shell out R50k in total on a sport that he hasn't tried yet. What if they don't like it?
  14. I doubt they will be a fake............Pro lite is more known for their wheels, so I don't think the Chinese will be making fakes of the frames. Don't let the name Natal Rubbers put you off. For example, the old importers for Fuji bikes was called Akals. They were part of the Midas group. Maybe just make some enquiries.
  15. To my knowledge they are not officially imported into SA. Who is going to honour any warranty issues?
  16. The Silverback website says that the Splash has an air fork (which is generally better), however, it says Suntour XCR Air. To my knowledge the XCR is a coil sprung fork and not an air fork.
  17. The RS21 is not much of an upgrade over your Alex wheels. Get the groupset. The difference between new 105 and 10 year old tiagra is massive. The shifts will be so smooth, you will think the gears are not changing. Oh ja.....the RS21 are designed for 11 speed, so if you are planning to upgrade to 11 speed at some point, you may need these wheels first
  18. Insurance won't cover manufacturing faults, which is what the warranty is there for.
  19. Omnico (GT, Cannondale, Mongoose, Schwinn) are legendary along with Silverback. There have been hundreds of complaints about Scott right here on the hub, mostly from chainstay issues and Scott's inability to supply replacement parts timeously. I guess they under estimated the high failure rate.
  20. Action Cycles in PE were selling the 2013 SL4 Tarmac Pro frame for R14 999. That is the matt black one with shiney black graphics. That was an absolute bargain. Not sure what sizes they had and not sure if there is any left in stock. Give them a call, http://www.actioncycles.co.za/
  21. Merida make good quality stuff at good prices. They are somehow linked to Specialized. You cannot go wrong with a Merida.
  22. Cycle Lab in Fourways had a Suntour Raidon for R2 200 when i was there last month. I cannot remember if it was 26 or 29 inch. Perhaps give them a call before you go through to them
  23. I would put on a carbon stem just for the look. In fact, I would happily go carbon wrap, it is cheaper and still looks the part.
  24. They obviously don't learn...........back in the 80s they tried the consumption thing. It was a disaster and ruined the racing. The rule was dropped after 2 seasosn. Cars were limited to 195liters per race and it was a disaster. Cars regularly ran out of fuel and those that didn't had to resort to "coasting" to finish. In the days when tracks still had long fast straights. They would put the car into neutral and freewheel the last third of the straights.
  25. I don't agree.....there are many that have started shops just to ride the cycling wave and take advantage of the huge amounts of money cyclists will throw at their sport. Take Solomons for example. I don't think any of those women who run the show have even sat on a bike. They certainly lack any knowledge of the sport. Yet, they run a brilliant set up, with prices that rival the best in SA. I don't think Moregolf had any cycling passion when they bought Cyclelab. It was a pure business decission.
