  1. Measure your chain yourself. Use a ruler marked in inches, you can search the internet how to do it, its very easy. If the chain is worn just over the limit, buy a new one and try it. If it slips on the cassette then its time for a new cassette, otherwise ride it! If the chainring was slipping it might mean that its worn, but 1st try a new chain and see what happens.
  2. love the red spokes!
  3. If you dont want the wheels and fork I'll take them
  4. All of it is interchangeable, so you can do each part separately if you want. A few suggestions though (these are all my personal opinion, but I have experienced all of what I will advise) 1. Dont go for XT pedals, rather go for crank brothers, you wont be disappointed. 2. Rather replace front brake first. Its actually the brake that you should rely on more, you'll learn that as your skill level improves. 3. The deore FD is alright, rather replace the RD 1st with the XT shadow version. 4. Start saving for a new fork - an air fork will make a huge difference. Enjoy!
  5. Sorry man, misread the post after a long night of studying! Doesn't really make a difference though. It's also amazing how some people love to point out other people's minor errors and accuse them of all sorts of other things when the stupid little detail actually has nothing to do with the main issue. And just for you - I know a good deal about cracked frames after breaking mine earlier this year and doing loads of research.
  6. I would say that the frame is toast! Looks like you had your seatpost FAR out and GT are not going to warranty that in my opinion! Hard luck man! Next time pay attention to the minimum insert line.
  7. spray and cook on the tyres works quite well, doesnt last long enough though.
  8. WW is your crack just clear coat? It looked a bit more serious to me?
  9. I rode mezcals for a while, they were TNT though, dont know if thats very different to UST? Anyway, they are ok, not amazing though. I was quite disappointed with their grip. I'm also very glad I never punctured them as pulling them off a rim and putting them back on is mission impossible...
  10. Had the same problem, just took the pads out and sprayed a generous amount of Q20 around the piston. It hasn't given problems since.
  11. Doesnt sound too high. I've hit 206bpm.My average HR in the last race I did was 183bpm (ok, I was unfit and a bit sick, but still) But your age does affect your HR, the older you are the lower your max will be, so if you are 80 years old then I would say 175 is overdoing it, but if you are 20, then you can still put in a lot more effort before you pass out
  12. Thanks, I'm planning to buy a new, entry level shimano one. Cant go much higher, my budget is already shot to hell! I'm going to be using old worn tyres on the wheelset for now as well!
  13. I ride a 11-32 cassette on my current mtb wheels but I've just bought a 2nd set to use for training as my other set is taking a bit of a beating and I dont want to wear out my nice expensive tyres on tar. My question is - would putting an 11-34 cassette on the training wheels mess me around on the bike? Would I even feel the difference?
  14. its adrenaline. Rather stay away from it.
  15. If you are upgrading your hubs I presume that you're keeping your same rims. You will need to get hubs that suit your rims then...
  16. I dont know about the lever, but I know your brakes work VERY well!
  17. Ja ja, shot weenie.
  18. I dont like the brake levers at all...
  19. I also just changed to crank bros. Haven't even ridden them in mud yet and I already love them!
  20. I always carry a tube and had to use it for the 1st time on friday - got a huge nail thru my tyre and when I pulled it out the tyre broke its seal with the rim. Didn't have a CO2 bomb, so had to use a tube. If you get a sidewall cut in a ust setup plugs aren't going to work at all and you're going to have a long walk home!
  21. I wanted to service my rear hub yesterday and didnt have cone spanners, so I took out 2 old spanners in the right size, stuck them against a grinder for a good few minutes and voila!
  22. I have the sigma. Its quite decent and costs MUCH less than the polar. I'm quite happy with it, only 1 small issue now is that one of the buttons is sticking, but I'm sure I'll be able to sort it out. Polar is obviously a better name and better quality, but consider the prices of both.
  23. my bad! Fixed it! I just saw chili, spies and bakkies and presumed the worst
  24. There are only 2 ways that Bafana Bafana can get through to the next round: Method 1: Method 2: *disclaimer - I'm still supporting my team to the end! Flags are still on my car and I think we can give le bleu a run for their money... Just thought it was a funny email mtb_Josh2010-06-17 09:27:19
