  1. https://www.news24.com/southafrica/news/sporting-world-mourns-princeton-rower-kerry-grundlingh-after-cycling-accident-in-joburg-20250729-1180 The language "cycling accident" reveals what we all know about riding on the roads.
  2. I have not heard of attacks on that stretch - not long ago there were attacks on the Woodstock stretch, particularly in early dawn and pre-dawn hours. Others?
  3. possible yes - Most dangerous area is the section on the trails and dirt on the mountain above CBD - sporadic incidents there - I would ride that bbut I would be cautious in that area.
  4. Ja I wouldn't employ any temu product in a critical function - it's great and cheap for small things that don't matter a lot - an el cheapo photography light for example, a protective case for a laptop etc --- brakes on my bike... no chance
  5. Has not been safe at all in recent months. Scores of incients associated with occupiers of Transnet land alongside the bike path. There have been some operations conducted in the area but I am still avoiding the bike path as well as the N! route over Church street bridge. Alternative routes are in other threads on these forums - past Grandwest, through Pinelands and then Woodstock cycle path into town past the Castle. Cycle path unfortunately cannot be recommended at present.
  6. This sounds an excellent notion - not been to northern cape in ages.
  7. I have written the date as 2026 a few times in the.last week. duh
  8. This looks like a lot of fun but a bit last minute. com to organise.a trip to NC
  9. Thanks - that's useful - I'm a big Phil Gaimon fan - and had some references to his videos lined up in the narration but I forgot them when making the video!!
  10. @BuffsVintageBikes ha ha... it's light entertainment from a heavy breather!! @bleedToWinI haven't signed up for this year no - Really felt the need for a lower level of riding after Munga and a Grit and 36One since December last year. But it's on my dance card for 2026 - as is another Munga and hopefully a Munga Grit Le Dur in Namibia

    Bike Fit

I was there with my road bike fine tuning my saddle height while they helped you. Just spent 2 hours there updating my fit including shorter cranks and a Q factor adjustment involving new pedals after recent ultras took me to my biomechanical limits. First ride today ... never felt more stable and planted on the bike. Money well spent. Watch the classifieds for a stages left crank power.meter in a 175mm shimano 105!
  15. I agree that people generally seem to overvalue their goods - I think it's an emotional thing. "I don't want to take small money for something I've valued so much". I'm the opposite - I'm inclined to give things away for less than they are worth because I want to share the love --- but then I'm a genuinely nice guy!! I agree also that the small advances in tech make upgrades less desirable ---- this is the cue for 32" wheels to make their appearance .... all those new geometries that we will need, and hubs and and and....
  16. For this budget this is the way to go for sure. Especially the dedicated El cheapo frame.... sweat is.very damaging to the bike.

    Munga 2025

Not this year unfortunately - S.O. has 50th birthday celebration and so I'll be reading race reports not writing them -- next year though if all goes to plan.

  20. The erotica za edition is dead as far as I know.... sorry more digression from thread topic
  21. 6 pages and not one name and 'nary a drop of shame .... it's like a bond villain "And now Mr Bond ... you will die, but first listen to my long elaborate expose of my character's motivation, and then you will die ... and one ... and two, .... and three ...., but wait..."
  22. This is what I would do - I've ridden the first 100km of this en route to Montagu from Hermanus Stanford to Swellendam.gpx
  23. Perhaps we should caveat that to read "If anyone cycles past there before the weekend AND LIVES TO TELL THE TALE AND STILL HAS BICYCLE AND CELL PHONE, please report back.
