  1. Whoever is reading this may or may not know that I try to raise funds for CHOC at every opportunity. Usually, it's in the form of swimming the 8 Mile Charity event at Midmar, with 2024 marking my 9th attempt. This year, I thought I'd mis it up a little as the feat does not seem as impressive as it did the first couple of times I did it, with many of my mates suffering from "donor fatigue". So this time around I figured I'd try something very different and perform multiple impressive feats all in the name of the little legends CHOC looks after. My race calendar therefore looks as follows: 15th October 2023 - Cape Town Marathon - Running - 42.2km 19th November 2023 - Ride Jo'burg (94.7) - Cycling - 97km (it'll be my 10th) 8th, 9th, 10th, & 11th February 2024 - Midmaar Mile - Open Water Swimming - 16 Miles over 4 days There will be other little events and what not added in amongst the above three events, but these will be shared as they come up. All I'm asking for in return is a little donation, big or small, to CHOC who does such amazing work looking after childhood cancer sufferers and their families. September is Childhood Caner Awareness Month, let make a difference for these little fighters. Have a look at my fundraising page and feel free to send this on to anyone who may be keen to donate. Thanks in advance. Jason Raath is raising funds for CHOC | kydrin foundation
  2. I friend of mine told me about On-cloud running shoes which I've never heard of before, maybe because I live under a rock or it's because I hate running. But anyways, to make a long story short, I was curious so I asked to give me a link and I will have a look. So I had a look at the link https://tifosisports.co.za Tifosi Sports is the official importer/distributor in SA and you are right, the shoes are pretty expensive, and they do not give any discounts. If you've been here long enough, you'd know the next best thing people do is to do a search on the web and see who else sells it and perhaps you can pick up a bargain or two. You guessed it, there are some websites selling it for less than half the price! Then I was thinking, this sounds too good to be true! After further investigations, etc, etc....All scams, some looking VERY legit, and others selling cheap chineez look-alikes! So be warned people. Another thing I picked up are the courier companies.... There must be a syndicate at work here as well. When you order something online, the supplier uses a curier company to collect and deliver. There are workers/agents/drivers in these companies that now go and pick up your parcel for delivery. They have all your details e.g. name, address, phone number. You get a sms from a +27 08708... number: Due to the wrong delivery address of your package, the delivery of the package has been suspended, please update it in time: https://s.id/Postoza You put in your address, then submit. After you submit you then need to provide your credit card details as it was delivered to the "incorrect" address in case they need to charge you for it. Edit: BTW, the https://s.id/Postoza was a dead give away, but I had a peek as i was curious.

  4. Good afternoon folks! Hope those who cycled this weekend didn't get blown over by the wind, it sure is pumping out here in the Souf! Seeing as it's my 30th living year in 2019, I'd like to set myself a probably not very unique challenge, but a unique challenge to myself. I want to attempt to finish 30 events. I'm interested in cycling, mostly road but a bit of MTB is fine, nothing next level technical. Pretty strong runner, on and off road. Swimming, well, I don't bother with that! My cycling list, just out of memory looks like this so far (7) Fast OneR4VR4S947EmperorsAmashovaMidvaal 100Events I've missed out on that look appealing (3): Race to the SunTrapNet 360Garmin MTB race (I know I'm going to miss it, but at R50 entry!!)Running list: DischemRundelaRhythm runPharmaton EdenvaleI prefer events in Central Gauteng, but am willing to travel within reason. Races in other provinces are appealing only if one can make a weekend out of it. I'd like your contributions! Thanks!
  5. The "Cyclists with a "Running" Problem" thread has so much valuable info in it, but it's hitting 500 pages now. Since we chat about running shoes so often, I thought it would be better to split these posts out into its own thread so others can find this info easily. I'll start. Found this interesting for the Asics fans: https://www.runningshoesguru.com/content/best-asics-running-shoes/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=asics_running_shoes_the_2018_updated_guide&utm_term=2018-04-06 Some reviews on the shoes I have used: New Balance Fresh Foam Lazr (Neutral Shoe) Terrible long distance running shoe. Ate the back of my feet and made my feet numb. The store assistant admitted that they are having issues with these shoes. Didn't play around with new lacing techniques as I returned them (got a full refund towards another set of New Balance). A nice looking shoe, and would work well in the gym and for cross fit style training as it feels flatter. They did feel nimble and fast though. New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 v6 (Neutral Shoe) My very first pair of real running shoes. They didn't give me a single issue, not even a blister. Have 1000km on them and they still have some life left. No tears in the fabric and slight wear on the soles. I suspect I will get 1300km out of them. They do feel big and "boat" like as they have a wide toe box. They are also quite pricey though (around R2,500). New Balance Fresh Foam 880s (Neutral Shoe) This shoe is very comfortable, feels faster and smaller than the 1080s. Also looks nicer than the 1080s. These shoes however make my feet numb 20 minutes into a run, no matter which lacing pattern I use, or how loose they are. The tongue of this shoe seems to have more padding in it, which I think is what is causing the issue. I do have high arches, but not overly high, so I would be cautious.

  9. Welcome to the official Anatomic Sportswear thread. What exactly does that mean? Well, let's just say it's just a more official way to line up our relationships with BikeHub members - most of whom I've gotten to know over the years via my personal profile (Andrew Steer). Much of the time it will still be me posting on here, but other members of our staff will also have access to the profile, so we can make the most of it and keep you up to date with our latest products, promos and competitions. As most of you know we're a Sportswear manufacturer, we've been making cycling clothing for over 30 years at our factory in Parys just off the Vaal river. We've also recently successfully branched off into many other sporting disciplines. Running, Triathlon, Action Sports, Corporate Tee's, Golf, Netball etc. Basically, if you need any custom made performance apparel, we're the guys to call. We've got 100's of South African sized patterns and wide range of imported and locally manufactured performance fabrics to cover pretty much any needs. We're also permanently evolving and enhancing to cover current trends and needs. We've also got reps/showrooms based all around the country (www.anatomic.co.za/showrooms/) with the aim of delivering the best service possible. By South Africans, for South Africans - we're very proudly South African company with a long invested history in the sport of cycling through our magazine Ride and our numerous events, Crater Cruise, Southern Skies and our partnership in the rapidly exploding Spur Highschool Mtb Series. We also have an online retail wing (www.weardirect.co.za) which we will be expanding on in the next few months with a nice new website and some exciting new line items. So please, follow this thread if you want to be kept in the loop with what is happening our side; Sales, new products, competitions, giveaways, event specific offerings, limited edition kits etc. I might even just ask for some design input from our followers - we want to push Anatomic to higher levels than ever before, we want to deliver a South African product on par with the world's best brands. Thanks for reading and welcome along on our journey.
  10. So with more and more of us moving to structured training plans either with power meters on the bike or on the IDT, or even just using HRM. I thought it might be good idea and of assistance to find out how many free training plans there are out there to use with Trainingpeaks (TP). I have have been using TP for the last year and find the integration of automatic upload/sync with the likes of garmin and as such the ease of following workouts and checking performance and PMC numbers etc to be pretty beneficial in my training and fitness. Yes there are many plans you can buy via the trainingpeaks website, but if you look hard enough you can find free ones Especially as I see more and more hubbers saying I have X number of weeks before an event, what plan can I do to get fit... or a semblance of fitness for that event. Perhaps a structured training plan will help better. It is said that your are 2X more likely to succeed if you follow a structured training plan and as hubbers prefer to spend more on their bikes than on the fitness/training side... perhaps some free plans might be of assistance with the basic Athlete training account on TP. (which is also free) So to get the proverbial training going, here some links to free training plans: Cycling http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/british-cycling/british-cycling-training-plans https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/cycling/tp-74350/road-stages-power-primer-new-power-meter-user-7-12-hours-per-week https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/cycling/tp-74712/tt-tri-stages-power-pacing-new-power-meter-user-4-9-hours-per-week https://www.trainingpeaks.com/affiliates/quarq-training-plans/?utm_source=FB_Post&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=FB_TrainingPeaks_Quarq_training_plan&utm_content=Quarq%20training%20plans%20in%20TrainingPeaks https://www.trainingpeaks.com/my-training-plans/rgtcycling Ebook needed for the stages plans https://support.stagescycling.com/en/support/solutions/articles/1000122756-ebook-trainingpeak-s-how-to-start-training-with-power- Triathlon http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/british-triathlon/british-triathlon-training-plans http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/usa-triathlon/usa-triathlon-training-plans https://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/plans/15-week-pool-sprint-triathlon-plan-for-1st-timers?DCI=22&DSC=42 Use Code to get for free https://home.trainingpeaks.com/purchase/TP-111567 Running https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/running/10km/tp-109701/beginner-10k-plan-with-structured-workouts Sufferfest (a whole host of various plans) https://thesufferfest.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/333757054935-The-Sufferfest-APEX-Training-Plans-Now-Available-on-TrainingPeaks https://www.trainingpeaks.com/the-sufferfest.HTML Swimming https://www.trainingpeaks.com/affiliates/2017-triathlon-week-swim-training-plans/ Anyone found any other free TP plans whether cycling, triathlon, running, crossfit etc?? 20% Discount code for TP, 20BritishTri2020 (Just change the year accordingly) https://thesufferfest.com/pages/training-plans
