Set myself a target to build a rat bike with stuff out of my garage (and from mates/lbs) that is safely rideable and spend under 100 ZA rondts ..... So far so good, spent about 75, still need chain, back brake outer, headset spacers. Have a chain just need to decide whether I try a magic gear or fit the chain tensioner I have.

Frame - my old TT frame, recently replaced with a carbon magafter

Bars - old Ritchey bars that have been shortened

Brake levers - from a failed road bike straight bar experiment

Seat - worn Merida seat off my MTB SSR

Crank - MTB crank that had the blades stripped off it

Front wheel - donated by LBS when they moved shop and were tossing some stuff

Rear wheel - built by my son when he was working at a bike shop during college holidays

Rear cog - bits out of a few stripped cassettes

Brake calipers - donated by LBS old Shimano 600

Tyres - from old spares in the roof

Tubes - repaired 2 previously punctured tubes that were lying around

Nice project - will probably be one of your favourite bikes...

Say hello to my new steel 29er frame, hopefully getting it next week

The only problem at this moment is if I'm going to run it rigid or not....

It is more comfortable to run it flaccid. :P

After a visit to my LBS it's all done! Lekker to ride and pretty comfortable, will do just fine to run errands and visit the LBS with :) - SS and flat pedals are ideal to just jump on and go, no dancing shoes or helmet required ;)

Funny comment about the dancing shoes! Now I will never be able to separate cycling and tap-dancing...

Decided to do a proper home made single speed

Emptied the bike room, garage and smokkelled a

Track frame from my LBS for a steal..

Started with sanding and Matt spraying the frame

Added the stock seat post and stem

Will convert a set of std road bars into bull horns

But until then a set of fixie bars will do..

I added a set of 1980...something Simano calipers

I am playing around with the rear sprockets

I took the 7 speed cassette apart and added

Spacers keeping 3 sprockets on for now ..

A 12 .. 17.. 23 .. Will decide later after busting my legs to chose a ratio...

Wheels are stock 1999 105 ..

I'm looking for a set of decent track hubs with a flip flop rear hub to build a decent set of deep dish wheels ....

Current cost is minimal as all bits bar the track frame were off previous builds ...

Tyres will be on tomorrow
