Further to our discussion. This just popped onto my YouTube feed. (I think they are tracking our discussions on here  )

Bottas only changed 3 Tyres here...

My thinking is that this is allowed because the same type of tyre is on all 4 wheels before and after the pitstop.

The risk of a faulty wheel change at the stop probably outweighed the benefit of having a Fresh Medium on there.

Interesting and a strange thing to do. But within regulations. I thought they had to put on an entire new set.

Nice link explaining the incident, thanks.

"Using a tyres of different specifications at the same time is not allowed. A driver who ends up with a mix of compounds, e.g. softs on the front and mediums on the rear, must pit to change them for a matching set within three laps."

With the "Almost Oval" track coming, would a Left/Right Tyre difference come into play? Are you even allowed to run Mediums on two wheels and Softs on the other two? Either left/right or front/rear?

No. I think the late 80 was the last time you could mix compounds on a car. You are not even allowed to mix tyres from different sets these days as far as i know. Not even sure pirelli allows different tyre pressures between left and right...only front and rear.

No pressure is decided before the weekend starts

Tyres can differ in age but HAVE to be the same compound I. E. I can only replace my left tyres in a pit stop if the track has more rights turns than left

Makes me wonder just how k@k bottas really is. This merc is very clearly lights out ahead of the rest.

I don't think he is , he took it to Massa proper while he was at williams and Massa himself challenged Lewis
