Attacking During a Mechanical, very difficult to understand.

If the bunch goes 30km/h , and someones derailer broke, or some twit ride with 350gram super light tires,

why must the bunch stop?

the water point issue? it was not a attact, it was just that milka trek was not waiting for the front bunch to stop partying at the waterpoint.

Who write this ""ünwritten"" rules, or does it only matter when somone is upset about it.

In the animal kingdom, if you fall behind you will get eaten...

Cycling should be the same...

On Sunday I had a mechanical during the race and no one waited for me. And unless I know you and considder you a friend, if you fall, or break down, I am not waiting for you...

Yes, I know I am not the world champ/yellow jersey leader but if I was, I would not want charity! I want to earn things - it will just make victory so much sweeter!

So Susie should shut up. Maybe he has won to many things already and don't know what the value of this is anymore.

I don't think it was the issue with Milka Trek. It was another time. I think it was the Stockli pro team. Not 100%.

Well there did not appear to be bad blood at the end of the race, Merida went over shook Songo's hand and embraced them on their win.

They all raced hard Merida were only 10 minutes behind after 7 days of racing I think they are fully entitled to go "full gas" on the last day to try get those 10 minutes back.

Well Conti certainly didn't make any friends when he attacked during TdF last year, even though he had an excuse.

The issue is taking advantage of someone else's 'mechanical' or bike troubles during the fight for the lead, and it does seem there is a legacy in cycling that that is not on.

Also attacking during a feed or leak session will draw scorn as well.

But the question remains: Why is that so? What's the reasoning? Surely an 8-day race is not a 7-day race and 1 day of glory? If the last day isn't a race, why televise it live?

Load of cods wallop if you ask me. So if Burry had a blow out that would of taken 25 minutes to fix then the others must wait ???

this same discussion was held last year at tdf with the schleck/contador/chain thing. a while ago all was the moer in for breintjies bart for attacking at a feeding point.it shows to me that there are still no clearcut rules as in governing body rules and the riders follow the "unwritten rules" the problem with unwritten rules are what are they only guidelines/rules to be followed at all costs/who oversees these rules/who makes enforces them etc.

my view point is that it should be a race till you cross the finishline and then have beers.

Very interesting thread... Don't think there'll be any agreement reached though :)

The Genze and Kaess break away brought a bit of excitement to an otherwise uneventful stage. Made everyone wonder if there'd be an upset on the cards. I'm no pro so I'm not sure if there is an unwritten rule that applies to MTB'ers, but as a spectator of the race, I'm all for a race to the finish line.

They do not attack as a gentelmans agreement - this goes to say if bury has a mechanical, the others slow down, so that if the role is reversed then burry will also not attack.

This race is not a road race where your tire goes flat if you perchance hit a rogue drawing pin. this race cracks skulls and dishes out punishment mortals and bikes are not going to survive at that pace. Things Break - Often. so the likelyhood of you requiring some breathing room when you snap a chain and have to repair it yourself, and not with a roadie team car and spit polish while you wait, is very high.

So everyone waits, so when it's their turn, they wait. Everyone happy.

It also means the race is won on skill and strength and not who had the least breakages.

Ok

I will remind Burry to wait for Julian when he drops his chain at the Cross Country in PMB at Easter

I was not much a Bulls fan at the start of the Epic but Platt and Sahm really showed guts and class.

Off the thread, I know...

Worth mentioning, they are often referred as the "Darlings Of The Epic..."

On the thread:

Dunno much about MTBing, but mechanical reliability is a slightly different issue because of the terrain.

Road is so much less hazardous.

What is MTB etiquette? Or is it the same as Road Racing etiquette?

I was doing Kloof to cable car repeats when I rode through a piece of metal like a spike.... got a papwiel :P

So I stopped to change my tube. I was busy consentrating on the job at hand when a guy in a taxi stopped to see If he could help me, It was getting dark and I was aware that Its not very safe up there on my ace, so I admit I was a little Jumpy...

As he stopped I thought It was an attack so I jumped down the side of the road with my half a bike in one hand and a wheel in the other, ready to "maak spore"..

the guy offered me a lift home.. I felt a bit doff..
