Very true, but there is also something to say about being the first... alot of uncertainty.

Love the landing :)

Not only about being the first....Baumgartner's jump was unaided by any form of stabilization control, remember how he tumbled around out of control....he controlled  (or rather tried to...) his own body position whilst this last guy had some sort of stabilization device reported to be a drogue chute for the initial part of the free fall. Big difference between the 2 but still an amazing accomplishment.

As it turns out this was a Monday ... google search gave the following:

  1. National Latino AIDS Awareness Day is Monday, October 15, 2012. Anyone can be at risk for HIV, including Hispanic older adults. Let's get the facts, get tested, and get involved so we can stop HIV together. Talk HIV today!

Joe Kittinger... look him up  ;)

He set a record of 102 800ft in 1960. That record stood for 52 years until Felix's jump. It took Baumgartner a few test jumps to excceed that with 21st century technology.

I did not know that. 1960's !

The Plant Site here in the mountains is locked down for the Chopper to come in come in for the Gold Run.

The Congolese Police guard all points of the Plant while the chopper is loaded, and even protect us from attack from the air. (or maybe it's to shoot down the chopper)

... and yes, signwriting is still an artist's work here.

Read about Charles Bruce.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_%22Nish%22_Bruce

"In the early 1990s Bruce trained with Loel Guinness' High Adventure Company and Joe Kittinger to skydive from the edge of space from 130,000 feet and break the highest altitude freefall record previously set by Joe Kittinger himself in the 1960s"

He wrote an autobiography under the pseudonym 'Tom Read" called "Freefall" - Fascinating read.
