I just popped into Hatfield station in the week and noticed the amount of bicycles in the bike park. I was pleasantly surprised. I also noted an increase in the amount of commuters on bicycles in the Pretoria area. So maybe if the demand is there they might consider setting up one coach as a bike friendly coach. Not impossible but we will have to bombard them with requests Maybe just maybe we are lucky.

They certainly did consider taking on bicycles in their pre-construction planning meetings. I certainly kept the idea alive whenever it came up. I stopped attending when whe went to Mozambique.

I ride the Rhodesfield to Sandton route daily and during peak periods there is simply no place to fit a bicycle, even adding an extra carriage will not suffice. Suggestion would be maybe to allow them in off peak periods.

Is there WiFi on the coaches, they promised that as well?

Hi guys,

I have contacted the Customer Service Manager at Gautrain and really think we should look at this topic again. I have created a petition page on Facebook, the more people we can get on there the better chance we have of getting the rules changed. The aim of the petition is the following: We want Gautrain to review the rules when carrying a bike on the train and rather have it state that it needs to be a clean bike or the wheels need to be covered with an inexpensive solution rather than a bike bag.

This link should take you to the group page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.364661036935421&type=1#!/groups/364658973602294/

We have also posted it in the Critical Mass Johannesburg group page. Please take some time to vote on the page, I will send the statistics to the Manager so that she can see that there is a real need for this.

I work in Woodmead, closest in Marlboro Station. There are no busses (shuttles) from there. Riding a bike or a bicycle is a no go. The one border is Alexandra. Does anybody know of a shuttle to Woodmead?

I really don't think safety will be an issue there.. Have you been there?

And there is such a direct route to wood mead from the station.. Would be awesome to ride it..

Yes i have been there, not far but no showers or any facilities at work. Not sure about the bike safety overnight though.

Saw a news clip on e-news last night on this.

I somehow think that the Gautrain management is not going to entertain this idea.

They allow bikes packed in bike bags on the train however they will not allow bikes on the train otherwise as Gautrain is not a goods train. Somewhat flawed logic that. Anyway ... to the facebook page to sign petition.

I think the bus route which goes closest to woodmead is the one from the midrand station to rivonia road. it crosses the woodmead kyalami road about 4km from woodmead.

THREAD REVIVAL

I have a friend that is hopefully bringing a boxed bike down to CT for me but he is getting to ORT Airport via Gautrain. Box is 180x80x25... Do you think he will be able to bring it via Gautrain?

No issue if it's boxed
