Which bib shorts?

I'm about to buy i new pair of bib shorts, but i wanted to get some views on which ones to get. I know what most of you will say, Assos all the way, unfortunately i have a budget, and as much as i would love to buy Assos, i just want to get a pair that offer good value and comfort. I have been riding with First Ascent Endurance bibs up until now, but some say that there are better bib shorts out there.

I have been looking at the following:

First Ascent Revolution

First Ascent Endurance

Cape Storm Matrix

Cape Storm Nitros

What i would like to know is, which are the best out of the ones listed above and if anyone has any other suggestions.

Thanks

I ride with both First Ascent Revolution and Cape Storm Matrix Bibs, out of the two I prefer the First Ascent but I actually dont like either, I bought them to test out and use them for my short rides into work and back.

They cant compare to my Nalini Bibs for comfort etc...

Nalini, Castelli, and host of other good brands are quite close in price to these bibs, you should shop around.

I would stay away from any of the local bibs...especially since you can get imported shorts for similar prices

Thanks for the advice guys.

On the imported bibs subject, Nalini, Castelli, any other brands? And any ideas where can pick some up in the Gauteng area?

To add another name to the mix .... Medac (check out Medacsport.co.za - they'll make a bespoke pair for you too, if you so wish). I looked at a pair of shorts but thought the silver impregnated material they used was quite stiff but they've changed their material and have seriously upped their game. Their bibs look great!

Best balance between product & price - Velotex Red label.

I second that :)...............

I have one and it does not compare to my Capestorm / Howzit bibs .......... Costs a bit more than those but well worth it ..............

  • 3 weeks later...

Anatomic Racer bib all the way!

The lycra and chamois are imported so you get the quality of an imported bib without the 40% markup for import duty...

South Africans always love their fancy brands though <_<

Support good local products and create jobs
