I stand under correction. The Alouette II was mainly used by the SAPS and the Army used the Alouette III

See the scale turbine RC model flying here on Youtube, it even sounds like the real one

Oh, the sound those Alu's made is coming back to me, like a lot of loose things being swirled around at high speed, just before it all flies apart into different directions. Now the nausea and the fear is also starting to surface. Sorry, I'm getting out of here.

The only things that flew apart was from hits with the 20mm mounted in the III, and yes the effect was nauseating!

My old man still flies one of these, in original french army colours, including orange day-glo stickers.

It's a real piece of history - feels kind of industrial, like a Harvard.

Just read a book by a fellow high school rebel Granger Korf "19 with a bullet"

one of the final scenes he describes is when they (the Bats) go follow up a contact on the ground after the fleeing 'terrs' have got the attention of the above 20mm what meets him is a whole Bushmen family that has been slaughtered by those high explosive rounds - hectic!

The yellow and red tail rotor blades and yellow rotor guard reminds me of an IDF (Israel Defense Force) Aluette II that was used between 1957 up to the Yom Kippor war. It does not have the shroud between the tailboom and body though that had the Star of David on it.
