Vuelta a Espana 2012: 18 August - 09 September

I like lesser known teams to come to the party.

Cobo seems like a cool dude too, like Vroome.

It isn't really a lesser-known team - just a new set of sponsors for the old Saunier Duval outfit.

Remember, the guys who employed Piepoli and Ricco when they did amazing things in the mountains.

Yeah, Froome and Cobo really made for a great days viewing. Froome looked very determined but Cobo has been around a long time, quite a bit more experience as we saw when he just rode back to Froome on the slopes without panicking.

There's nothing in it between them, either of them to win will suit me, they have both done the hard work for sure.

Cobo holds the advantage, it's slim but I think he should be able to go all the way now.

Froome for me has to take it, I am not biased at all

Froome probably still rode in support of Wiggins the day he was in the leader's jersey. If Sky had allowed him to stay with or chase Cobo sooner, he could perhaps have won the Vuelta.

Good to see a fellow African doing well. I hope that a South African can become a GC contender at international level. Several have had opportunities with pro teams (George, McLeod, Kannemeyer, Cox, Augustyn) but none have had success so far.

Sad but true, and the nice thing about Froome, if they tell him to go back to the hotel to fetch slippers for Wiggins, he will do it, totally selfless.

I have known him since he was a sixteen year old gentleman, and he is more of a gentleman today.

You can't say they haven;t been successful, just haven;t done amazingly but still very well.

What about Daryll Impey, riding for that german team.

True, I saw somewhere that Van den Broek said Froome was the strongest in the Sky team and he should have been allowed to ride for himself, but I guess Wiggins was the senior rider so they tried to get him the win.

Barring an accident I dont think it will be easy to displace Cobo now, my favourite for the next few stages is Peter Sagan so I think the sprinters teams will keep the status quo.

Not for long... he's got a few BIGGER teams lined up for the new year

And when Ricco and co did doped up things in the mountains I remember Paul Sherwin saying to look out for Cobo, he's a man for the future ;)

I'm talking GC contenders in tours, either Grand tours or shorter protour races like Paris-Nice, Tour of Switzerland or TOC. "Doing very well" would mean getting top 10. Amazing means podium. Doing ok would mean getting their contracts renewed.

Our sprinters have been more successful, I think domestic races in SA encourages the development of sprinters. We don't have tours with proper TTs and mountains.

Impey has an opportunity, let's see how he goes.

Watched the Cobo-Vroem|Vroem duel last night.

Really though Cobo cracked. He said that the crowd's energy really helped him on.

Brave burst from Froome.

Scintillating racing.

Must say Cobo is looking strong for the title.

Yup def. the duel of the season after all that lame action in the TdF.

Universal Sports guys were talking/speculating about Voem moving to Saxonbank to help Conti against the Schleps, thats could be interesting...

Yeah, its been a great race all round I thought.

Saxo needs to do something, their team is decidedly average taking 'Berto out of the picture. With the Leopard/ Shack Combo to contend with next year they are gonna have to up their game a bit.

Not to forget the superpowered BMC that includes Gilbert, Evans, Tejay van G, etc.

Saxo is definitely looking vulnerable.

Media reports say that Rijs is pretty chilled about the future. Not worried.

Wonder how Wiggins is doing.

4th in TdF 2009. Many raves about him since.

So, so, so, close for the Red Jersey in 2011 and now out of contention.

A 3rd would be good. 1st time podium in a Grand Tour.

Man you just love drama and speculation.

We have a South African kid who happens to be the nicest guy you could ever meet and you don't back him for the win

Not just do I find the fact that you don't respect what he could achieve serious enough, the big name throwing here clearly shows that you might possibly see his achievement as a stroke of luck.
