You might want to give Meerendal (R25) and Koeberg (flat, but free) a try.

Tygerberg Mtb Club a very good start, good website too, helpful members.

Places nearby - Meerendal, Kontermanskloof, Hillcrest, Majic Forest, what am I forgetting? All 15 minutes away.

Oh yes, Tokai (Southern Suburbs) is only 40 minutes away, and so is Welvanpas (Wellington), and Jonkershoek (Stellenbosch)

It's only an hour and a bit to Oak Valley and Lebanon (Grabouw)

Let Google and curiosity lead you there.

To revive an old thread .....

Where to take a 6 year old ?

We have done Hazendal a few times, but they are now busy with some renovations.

Would the short route at Meerendal be okay for a small kid ?

thanks

Oak Valley has a kiddies track with small bridges and bumps. Its around 2km in length and has various options to make it a bit more interesting. There are some picnic tables around the track, so pack a picnic and make it a family day out.

My 6.5 year old daughter loves B Spot at Bloemendal on her 16" pink Princess Bike!

She also easily does the short 5km route at Meerendal (including the single track portions).

She even twice did a small bit of the blue route, but the climbs are too much and she soon lost interest in pushing.

My 8 year old son has often done Meerendal, Bloemendal, Hoogekraal with Dad, slowly and with lots of breaks on the climbs.

Also do yourself a favour and just join Tygerberg MTB club. Family membership is best value and pays for itself in a few months.

Went to Bloemendal first.

Sadly never got to see the person at the hokkie where you pay for the trail .... and never got info on the route for the youngsters.  Did notice a 2,5km track, up the hill .... lots of thorns, and VERY busy with experienced riders ...

Went to Meerendal, and had a stunning time !!!!  Wife enjoyed the restaurant, with the view on the shorter route we did.

I was pleasantly surprised at just how quickly Maritz has improved from using side wheels just 6 weeks ago.  He was judging his lines well in advance, staying out of the ruts, and missing the bigger rocks.  Actually pedalled up 80% of the hill as well.

Looking forward to our first 4km event in two weeks time.  :)  (will start at the back, as pack riding may just be a bit much right now)

PS - WILL do Oak Valley, just plan it with one of our Hermanus weekends.  :)

We were actually discussing membership on the way back.  Will certainly go this route.

Pity we could not speak to somebody about the "B route/spot" at Bloemendal ....

maybe just as well .... after Meerendal his bike had a flat rear tire .... would have ended in the same much sooner at Bloemendal.  Spoke to the guys at Chris Willemse - apparently I cant go tubeless with the 20'' .... got slime and tire liner .... guess what I will be doing this afternoon :)
