I have been forced into tapering by a serious bout of bronchitis. If I can recover in full by next week I will do a 50km bike ride + 10km easy run next Saturday and then it is done...

Really trained hard for a sub 6 hour race but due to this stooopid illness I gues I will have to do with a 06h15 again.

I also got hit by a perfect storm over the last month. Light bronchitis and ITB over December. Recovered nicely from both only to strain my achillis on my first brick back.

Now I'm only swimming to keep the lungs and heart going.

Also looked at sub 6 and will still go for it, but will run until something breaks and then run/walk the rest.

This is really funny. I got hit by a decent cold and resultant sinus infection. Lost a lot of lung capacity. All I'm doing now is swimming to try get that back. Also picked up some ITB in the last week out of nowhere. So there is a chance I do zero training until race day if the ITB flares up tomorrow. Still going for my sub 5h30 and like gadget will also push until the wheels come off then walk home. If all goes to plan I can get to 10km of the run in semi OK shape. Right now I'm just hoping the weather is good on the day.. if not, that will make me even more sour.

Seems like there's ITB and cold virus doing the round. I m also recovering from cold and itb. Went for my first 3hr + cycle this morning in about 2 weeks and really struggled with energy and breath. One more long cycle and run before next week and then taking it easy and focusing on swim.

Colds and ITB.....Overtraining folks?

Its like the blurred vision you get from spending to much time starring at the computer screen reading the hub of our lives (he says rubbing his eyes)

I went for a 20k run this morning and my ITB flared up big time again at about 5ks! I ran/walked pretty much the whole way from there. This is not good with 2 weeks to go before the big event. It has been fine for the last month or so. My planning was to do my last 3hr+cycle tomorrow, but now I am not sure. Probably best to rest it the next two weeks and hope for the best on race day?

How have u been treating the ITB? One thing I need to say is when the ITB flares here is no running anymore, it's stop and I mean stop immediately, stretch it out and ice it using a polystyrene cup method for max 20min do this 3 times a day every day, and stretch out every day as well.

Does the riding impact your ITB as well?

I have been stretching and using a foam roller. Also had special inners made for my shoes during Nov when it also gave problems. No problems until this morning and then suddenly out of the blue. Its ok on the cycle, but I did fit tribars and changed set up mid Nov. But had no problems. So Im not sure where this comes from.

What kind of running distances have u been doing weekly, did u suddenly up your pace or distance too much too quickly, did u recently fit the new inserts in your shoes?

I have been doing three runs a week, recovery, interval and long. Have not changed anything significant over the last month. My long runs have been 16ks + for the last two months probably. I have however increased my cycling distances the last 2 weeks to get used to the tribar set up over long distances. My inners were changed in Nov and that actualy helped sort the probablem for a while.

It could be the change in bike position, my advice ice 3 times a day, take water place in a polystyrene cup and freeze, peel off little by little and rub the area up and down for 20 minutes, then ask your doctor for a script 15mg Coxflam it's easy on he stomach and will take down the inflammation even the pain and u can take daily for a few weeks so that even through IM u should be ok

The first weather report from Weather24 is looking fairly promising for race day! 25 degrees and 20km/h Easterly wind... Probably pretty meaningless this far in advance, but I really need all the help I can get! 30km Bay-to-Bay run tomorrow morning to finish up my running training and then a 50km cycle and a few swims next week to hopefully give me that little push to get to the finish line! No target beyond getting to the finish line for me though (if I can survive the swim then I should theoretically be safe!).
