The sub7 - Majick Forests FUN timed run

the other option Wes, is to do the top section of Majik. the section up from the substation. it's nearly completely open, view for miles and the last bit into the area in front of the substation is off the mainline going up, so clear all the way down. No prams, no rickshaws, just you and the bushes..

ok so I am at least making some sense. phew.

I wonder if tygerberg mtb would be open to putting on an event of sorts? maybe even a super D sort of route - start way on the other end, beyond the sub station (plenty jeep track for shuttling) and then throw in the climb from the sub station back to the beacon for good measure, then from the beacon down to the end.

could be a blast and a half...

 Wes.

I also agree with Cap that things can work out fine if approached correctly, as explained. Some people tend to go a bit nutty when psyched up, so I think general caution around the whole affair (including backing down completely if it turns out that people around) is the wisest approach.

Let's do this at Tokai! I reckon we need to make provision for a bit of everything, not just full-on DH stuff, meaning that we include all that pedally open-field singletrack at the bottom (I still don't know what it's called, damnit, so I've red-lined it on the map below). This would give everyone a chance to be fast on any bike. Finish on the little wooden bridge stream-crossing.

I'm sure there are already pretty well-timed runs for this route, it must be the most-ridden section of the mountain.

Yeah, he did. But that section (the bridge itself) needs to be reinforced in most places... It's actually turned into quite a drop off!

MH - that pedally section at the bottom is still part of Vasbyt, known commonly as the quarry section. Then it's down the fire road into my roots, which ends on the little bridge section over the river...

Looks like you miss the bridge drop-off?

Yep, but that's just me. The drop-off itself is kinda pointless, and for some reason that section just plain annoys me. It's probably the sand, I hate sand... :P

Going around it includes some high-speed pedalling and railing that corner as well as the one where you join up with the drop-off.

Agreed - not a lekka drop off, also the route and stump on the landing need a new home.

Alrighty, will give it a shot next time.

yeah its probably better to do it at Tokai like MH Says ... but still just keep the Majick thread open and if you riding on your own and do the run just post your time anyway.

You always end up giving it on the way down any trail so you may as well just put up your times anyway even if you have had to hug trees and bunnyhop smooching lighties

For sure. There's anyway just a small number of blind corners where you will have to be a more careful of oncoming traffic. I've been riding in Majik for 10 years and haven't once crashed into other riders/pedestrians. Just be sensible about it. After a while you know in which sections it's safe to give it horns.

NiHi: how about listing a top 10 times list in the initial post. Should have two times already: Wes' and the current board leader, Brussel on the nein'er.

Yeah good plan ... BUT ... before I do that ... where is the finish etc so i can adjust the google image? Do you guys wanna end all the way at teh bottom? like Mayhem and you did? or are you gonna end as you hit the lower track next to the top dam like i suggested?

Also ... i dont have their times!

I was just about to write to clarify...personally I like the whole run down to the bottom.

heading out for a ride shortly and I might do a run if I am out that way...I have a seriously competitive streak :)
