Please give me some advice... My buksie is a free-range dog (this his paws doesnt see a lot of tarmac)... Its seems to me know that his nails are a bit too long (i think they hurt in evenings as he has started licking his paws...)

Anywho, i got a doggie nailclipper, but the bugger wont let me close! I tried everything but tar-and-feather myself beenos, mince and bbq sauce!!! Even tried feeding him with the bloody clipper... If he see that thing he doesn't even come close...

So what now?

Either the vet.

More walking on Tarmac

Catch and clip them yourself - hide the clippers till you are ready. If he is likely to bite you then muzzle him with a band around the nose and tied behind his ears.

Be quick and gentle and lots of treats after. Probably need help to hold him as he will squirm.

Or invest a lot of time in stroking and touching his paws while just giving him attention with no hidden agenda. Leave the clippers out in the open till he gets used to seeing them mad stops associating them with negative stuff. Eventually with time he should learn to tolerate having his paws handled, you can introduce commands etc and one day maybe he will lie there while you clip

Ok. Long term conditioning... Thought as much.

Trail running.  I take my dogs with me on 3 trail runs per week, ranging between 3-6km in distance.  Their nails are always nice and short.

I just clip those little thumb nails on their front legs every once in a while.  I do that while they sleep.

There is something special about rescue dogs. They have an inner calm / worldliness and loyalty about them that dogs raised in your home don't have.

We have taken a German Shepard into our home. A rescue dog that was days away from the injection.

As you have stated, he seems to have a inner calm and worldliness to him.

He honestly seems to realise the second chance that he has been given.

He is the most decent well mannered dog that I have ever seen.

He has really crept into our hearts

I made the VERY grave mistake of visiting the SPCA yesterday

I have a horrible feeling that if this girl is still there on Saturday & doesnt eat cats, she may have found a new home... :whistling:

Its the eyes...I shouldnt have looked at the eyes....and also the photos....I shouldnt have taken them.

She was conviscated for neglect.

Last week, one evening after 22h00 I was working in my outside study when my wife called me to come help. This little creature decided to randomly venture into our house via the open back door.

We have no idea where he came from and he must have travelled a fair distance to reach that point of the house. How he managed to escape the cats, only he will know.

Anyway, we have spoken to a number of the nearby neighbours, and no one seems to know to whom he belongs. Almost ten days later we have decided to adopt him and my wife dubbed him "Mannemarak"

Was he put up for adoption?

Yip, she has been there since 16th I think, so time is running out.

She is so thin, but what a beautiful looking dog - and you know she's not my type...but hell, she is gorgeous!
