A very well-known LBS (who shall not be named as it will derail the whole topic) did my first fitment when I bought a new bike. Absolutely shocking! I suddenly had all kinds of problems including very bad knee pain on even the shortest of rides. I went for a proper setup and guess what, problems sorted! Don’t even bother with the LBS fitment IMO

Very informative thread, especially since Ive been contemplating going for a bike fit session at some time. I think that its important to have a fit done, especially if you plan to start longer race and training distances. Would probably go for ErgoFIT

You can have an ErgoFiT done at Design in motion cycles in Morningside or at Active Physio in Alberton.

CYCLELAB Fourways will be up and running in a few weeks too.

Any idea of pricing in JHB?

Richard I have had both Ergo-fit and the BG Fit

to be fair as I said in earlier posts the fitter for ergo-fit didnt compare to the BG-fit but I think thats down to experience

the big Diff was how much time was spent with BG Fit on the spinner getting foot ankle positions everything right

That was R500 second bike R250

The ergo-fit was valued at R350 more computer based where the BG fit there is more rider input

Maybe better to compare BG -fit with Ergo-max and also to go to someone with loads of fitting exp

there are a few ergo-fit setups in cape town that just dont do it enough

Interestingly, my previous "muscle memory" of 4 years of riding is now being reset.

Had eina shoulders and upper back in the first few rides.

Definitely got a bit worried.

Adaptation is settling in now after about 20 hrs of riding.

Feeling good.

New muscle memory being ridden in, according to the new fit.

interesting

Thumbs up to Renay! He did mine in 2 years ago and he gave me a copy of set-up, so that if I change saddle or components, I can always check if they are in right place...

I better go back to him because I changed from 26er to 29er and I used same set-up, but it does not sound right!

I was so stiff at that time and I improved my flexibility, which might affect the set-up...

mmm interesting thread. I am planning an upgrade/bike build next year and will definitely do this as part of my purchase - particularly prior to buying those items that may need to be adjusted (or replaced in a complete bike). I am interested to know if they would do an preliminary assessment prior to purchasing a frame to ensure you get the correct dimensions on your frame.

Also, @caerus was the guy you went to associated with an LBS? Not sure if i would like that as it may influence your frame purchase based upon what they have to offer

Stretch ergo is not associated with any bike dealer they do sometimes however use some LBS premises to make it more accesable.

I went for a BG Fit at a LBS. My only complaint was the that the technician "professor" decided it was in my best interests to have shoe inserts inside and outside the shoes, due to my "collapsed arches" and "asymmetrical body". Turns out after consulting with a very well known physio and podiatrist that neither of these assertions are true. The real issues were caused by a bad fall which created the (temporary) assymetry- which has subsequently been corrected through rigorous physio and conditioning. My gripe is that this BG Fit technician has no clinical background and makes rather bold statements about body geometry and physiology. He was also only too happy to slander any expert opinion that contradicted his, which in my mind is rather unprofessional. I think that a really good bike fit would include the expertise of a physio / biokineticist, podiatrist & bike technician.

Oh and the shoe inserts set me back a cool R750 on top of the bike fit.

I am now allergic to BG Bike fit technicians, unless they have some form of clinical background.
