what makes the halflink different to others?

If you look closely at Tanks pic you'll notice the links are shorter than a standard chain. This gives you a greater ability to get a chain to the correct length - you are removing (or adding) smaller links (less space) as you try and adjust to the perfect length.

Have not tried them yet, I have however just changed my cranks form the Truvativ SS crank to the new Shimano XT.

I will see how their BB's hold up, if they don't I will then get a Chris KIng.

Hows that belltdrive dangle?

Anyone else here using beltdrives?

Top speed on that ratio?

Cool free app on itunes...BikeGearCal

32x16 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=2.00) = 24.8kmh

32x17 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=1.88) = 23.4kmh

32x18 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=1.78) = 22.1kmh

34x16 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=2.13) = 26.4kmh

34x17 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=2.00) = 24.8kmh

34x18 on 29er with 175mm cranks at 90rpm top speed(ratio=1.89) = 23.5kmh

Halflink Chain  much better than sliced bread ... always!

If I dont use a halflink I would have to use one of those ugly girly looking chain tensioners that just takes away the awesome look of a SS setup.

My frame doesnt have horizontal dropouts ... so Halflink it is!

So, how easy is it to get the back wheel off like this, impossible with horizontal dropouts if there is no tensioner! Might try this setup and see.

Halflink chain you can usually get the perfect gear look so that it looks neat as in the pic Tankman posted, otherwise you have to have a tensioner to take up the slack in the chain.

flip the chain off the front ring first and is then easy to then take the back wheel off

Almost but not quite. The links are not shorter, just designed differently.

Should have taken some close-up photos before installing but lets see what google comes up with.

With a normal chain, when you remove a pin, you have one open link and one link with the roller, thus making the joining of the chain more difficult if you end up with the perfect tension but have two open roller to connect.

The halflink has outerplate over each other, so every time you remove a pin, you have an open roller to connect the other side with.

Just dont shorten the wrong side of the chain!

I simply remove the rear weel and it just pops out, tension is not that tight that I need to remove the chain first.

I also use the XX1 Wolftooth chainring so that helps keeping the chain spot on!

Tank is there reason why the XX1 chainring.

Or all you wiser okes can clear my thoughts. I'm running a Dartmoor chainring i bought from dail'd bikes. Now just by eyeballing you can see that XX1 chainrings are much longer than the Dartmoor.

Also I'm running slot droupouts and chaintug so I've got no issues. Just curious?

Um... I'm pretty sure I'm right (seeing as though I've done this myself)... You've explained it a lot better.

On a normal chain you need to move an outer and inner link to be able to re-join the chain. On a half link, you can remove one link and re-join. This makes allows more adjustment on chain length.

Are you referring to the longer teeth on the XX1 chain rings? I know this contributes to not requiring a chain guide. Would be interested to hear if there's any other benefits.

My reason for the XX1 chainring is simple.

I had a choice between an XTR crank or old Truvative GXP crank when building my SS.

I would have gone with the Dartmoor Chainring if I chose the Truvative crank but then I would have had to buy a new pressfit GXP BB also.

Dartmoor does not have a 88mm BCD chainring for the XTR crank

Cost wise almost the same as the Wolftooth blade ... Saw Naas was bringing them in ... and Bingo!

Now I can move the XTR crank to my racer for 1x10 when I feel like it!

Yes i am. Again reason I'm asking is just clarity?

Ok maybe justification of price.... I'm very cheap XX1 chainring is R700+- Dartmoor is R300+-

Thought so. Had to do with the BCD's and switching into race mode. Thanks for clearing that up.

Me and Bro contemplating the 1x10 route. Problem is we both need clutch rear mechs. He's running XT me X0.
