PPA cut cord with CSA

I understand that, but why do you have to be a member of PPA to see your time online once you have a chip and paid for the race?

Well, since PPA facilitates the events and co-ordinates the timing of events it is surely their choice whether or not they make the information available to non-members or not. If you have a problem with this, become a member and at the AGM raise an item on the agenda to have this altered. PPA could choose the make the results available to non-members at a cost or no cost at their own discretion. Personally I think the cost to joining the PPA is so smal, that it really should be a non-issue.

THey seem a bit like ROAG here in KZN. ROAG are a company that organise races and have their own seeding system. They generate their income from the Race Host, advertising etc. They also have a "virtual club" for which the cost is nominal, abt R50.00, through which you buy your CSA license no.

not quite - ROAG doesnt organise the race, they facilitate the administration process - entries, late entries, on the day admin, ,seeding, communication, post race communications etc. Race Organisers Admin Group

To be fair, I have had no major interaction with PPA. at one point trying to get member information from them for CSA license validation proved a little troublesome - other than that as I am not based in w Cape i cant comment.

I still see this as a positive as long as we progress towards a single numbering/seeding system for all disciplines, and to be fair i think we are closer to that than we think

Welcome back PPA hopefully you guys will start up in all provinces again. Len get ready to start GPPA again back to the good old days of proper inter-club racing at affordable prices.

They start looking sideways at ROAG and I will take 'em out !!!!

Keep these winging bunches of politicians out of KZN.

ROAG have got it wrapped thanks very much. We don't need any idiot interference here, thanks for the offer.

 Will be fantastic to have some transparency around the funds generated by the Argus.

the Argus can do whatever the like with the funds - that's not what I'm refering to about the "monopoly".

What I don't like is the limiting of seeding races which are only Racetec timed. The 94.7 did the same last year, but declaring only races using Racetec timing would be used. Take a look at http://co.za/whois.shtml and you'll see that the Cycle Tour Trust is the registrant for:

www.cycletour.co.za

www.racetec.co.za

IMO it smells of corruption and abuse of market share to me - and against competitive behavior. But maybe I'm wrong, who knows.

If a cyclist wants a seeding for these two races, they have to do one of the qualifying races. Racetec can technically charge whatever they want and the race organiser has to pay the fee, if they want to be a "seeding" race, even if another timing company's quote is cheaper.

Geraldm24, I'm curious, given that they only use the bigger events with a minimum number of entrants for seeding purposes (i.e. a lot of smaller Racetec timed events are also excluded), what big races are currently excluded that you would like to see being used for seeding? I don't see an obvious exclusion?

Carnival City Macsteel National Classsic

Kremetart

The NEW Fast One (yes, they changed to ChampionChip this year)

Cansa Lost City

Century1 Bela Bela Classic

The Sungardens Carosel Classic

Feel free to add a race to this list if you're outside of the old TVL.

Race For Victory was a CC-timed race prior to 2011, and they've changed to Racetec, which probably gives them more exposure for entries because it's a seeding race.

Let me reiterate my point - if more than one timing company can quote on timing, and the race organiser can choose and is not excluded from seeding for big events, then you have healthy competition and not a monopoly.

Yes here we go again. It takes us back a few years when so many cyclists had all things to say about the SACF admin team [ about 5 - 10 years ago ] I recall all the postings about the Dales stealing money. About certain unknown people making accusations about Gotty Hansen and Bart Harmse the former Pres and Vice Pres..

But the sad thing is that Sylvia took them to court after been accused of many things and she won the case. I remember a few years ago we still had a few million rand in the SACF bank account. We had the Tri Nations and many teams been send abroad.

Then came the so called take over. Gotty got kicked out and the same to Baart. New blood. New gravy train. No more teams abroad. No more Tri Nations ect ect. And now NO MORE MONEY and possible bankruptcy for CSA.

Surely those okes need to be taken on and possible pay for the wrong decisions that they have taken.

Cycling South Africa Announcements – 09 February 2012

1. Cycling South Africa hereby announces the resignation of David Bellairs who served on the Board as Director Recreation. The Board would like to thank David for his service and wish him well.

2. The recent media article announcing the disaffiliation of Pedal Power Association from Cycling South Africa does come as a shock as it precedes the constitution-discussion meeting scheduled for 18 February 2012 where all affiliates will have an opportunity to raise any concerns. Like any other affiliate, PPA no doubt is an important entity and has done a significant amount of work to the benefit of not only those involved in cycling, but to the broader public. We sincerely appreciate the work being done by PPA.

3. As mentioned with the cancellation announcement of the 2012 Tour of South Africa, the financial issues pertaining to the Tour were to be resolved after meetings with the joint Board comprising Cycling SA and Primedia. Primedia have in the meantime issued a letter requesting payment of outstanding finances. Cycling SA will be engaging with Primedia to resolve this matter.

This issue have been going on for years - I remember the Kremetart being timed by Racetec an that year it was seeded.

The next year well we all know the history - in a free and transparent economy we would expect this not to be a problem - Personally I want to be seeded on all my Races not just those prescribed by ....

anyone else who agrees Argus is a bit on the expensice side? . Big walk has always been R50, so why do they need to charge R300 and even R600 for sustitution entries. Whoever must be making truckoads of money and from what I understand the city closes roads, not paid for through our entry fees, or am i missing something?
