Stupid question time .... did he not recently finish a two year ban? Was he busted again or was this for the bust of the pills in 2010.

he's been busted so many times its difficult to keep up

This is based on the investigation into his kidney failure and hospitalisation after he gave himself a home transfusion using improperly stored blood. Remember the one where he admitted to the emergency attending doc that he'd given himself a transfusion in his kitchen?

Missed that report. Thanks.

Glad he is out at least.

Subsequent examinations of his medical records during the course of the Italian Olympic Committee's (CONI) investigation showed hallmarks of an infection caused by the transfusion of improperly stored blood.

You get the idea...

And lastly even super Mario has been telling him to walk away and get a life:

"I met Riccardo Ricco last year,” Cipollini told La Gazzetta Dello Sport. “We rode together and talked a lot but I was very clear with him.

“I said: ‘Riccardo, first of all think about your son. Forget competitive cycling, the team and the desire to race again. To prove what? For a sense of revenge against everyone? Sit down to look for a job for the future of your child. You're still young, you cannot spend your whole life chasing a ghost or whatever it was. Take my bike, yes, but not to train or to think of racing.

“‘You have to do one thing: totally forget all about your career as a cyclist. You have to remove this burden and clean up your image. To talk about yourself and find out why you ended up in this situation. You cannot keep torturing yourself. Take these words as if they came from an older brother.’”

Lot of new respect for Mario now.

“Where are those who have ridden with Ricco now? Those who were with him then, where are they now? In this world of sharks, nobody, nobody is there. Mercy and love are words we are taught as children. We must give him strength and we must reach out for him. I want him to remember the good of cycling. It will not be easy, because he is still wearing the badge and thinking of riding and of revenge. But I repeated many times, a thousand times: ‘Think of your son. Do not dream of the Tour as that world no longer exists. Life is in front of you now. And facing that new road will be your most important victory, the largest of all the tours that you wanted to conquer.’”

I personally have no interest in his history and his personality, I dont enjoy tea with him on a regular basis and I dont consider him a friend. What I do have an interest in is his racing and it was great watching him fly up the hills, attack on some crazy mountain pass, race head to head with 'Berto and the peleton a distant blur down the mountain somewhere, that is how I see it.

I figure its not for me to judge him unless I have walked a way in his shoes, and I haven't, so I wish him well and I will remember his Racing spirit and especially his last Giro fondly.

Interesting that Cippolini is trying to give his bikes away. At those prices, they probably aren't selling well, even with his name on....

Wasnt his wife or girlfriend also bust doping? She was either a cyclo-cross or mtb chick?? cant remember....If so, the kids gonna have issues!!

Well said, not always easy to do.

He sure could fly up those hills with piepoli alongside, still remember Andy trying to hang to them in the Tour de France, I still wanted to see the showdown on Alpe d'huez that year.

Yeah, that he could.

In his younger years Simoni actually took him under his wing and showed him the ropes, so he learnt his racing and especially his climbing skills from one of the best in the business.

The year he came second to 'Berto in the Giro (2008) was one of his best, the two of them raced head to head up some of the most incredible mountain passes and I actually thought at one stage he would win but 'Berto's experience and most likely his superior team saved it for him, but yeah he was a superb climber.

Digging up an old thread to bury this guy for good

Riccardo Riccò handed lifetime doping ban

“I was a talented little bully, an idiot who threw away money and a career"

That is actually a really cool piece and shows he is human after all.

Unlike a few others, he is/was open and honest about his own shortfalls, idiocy and poor temperament.

Good on him for his humility.

It took a long time for him to get to this point though.

Some never did, while others got there a lot sooner.
