Â Couldn't get it tamped properly last night so water was just pouring through. I also think the ground wasn't fine enough.

I also think the ground wasn't fine enough. Try distributing the coffee a bit with a needle, and then giving the portafilter with coffee in it a couple of wacks on the countertop (with a rubber mat on) and then tamping - once the coffee is well distributed you almost don't have to tamp - the better your grinder, the less you have to do this. And check how the water comes out of the distribution screen - should be well distributed, not a single centralised water spout - sometimes the distribution screen can be VERY dirty between the 2 layers - take it out and hold it up to the light - you can see the blocked holes easily - then clean it properly (a bitch to do if it is old and hard).

They have about 15 or so different blends and strengths. Pods is about R3 to R5 each. Where are you getting them for that price...???
