Bit low - adjust up to 9 - this is where a scace tool would come in handy.. there are only a couple around - ping Iteachcoffee - he may have one or know where to find one in ct.

in any case you are unlikely to be able to taste the difference between 8.5 and 9.5 until you are close grind and temp wise - and with a new grinder thats tricky until it beds in a bit.

Scace will just temp and pressure sorted easily initially - and no, I dont have one unfortunately.

8.5

Got me a 100 year old spong #1 from my FIL, even though its only for Aeropress I'm still impressed how a century old grinder can still work so well

Yep, I am pleased as punch with my #4

Grinds enough beans for a double shot in under 30 seconds and feels very old school in the process!

I want some advice on where to get coffee beans - I like a dark roast - Italian. Like the Illy in the tins but they are expensive. Any sites or shops that can be recommended.

What is the optimum quantity to buy beans, or put another way do they have a best before date ?

I am using a bean to cup Delonghi machine.

Yes. If you buy beans, make sure it's in a packet with a one way seal.

It starts losing aroma after 1 week. Shouldn't be kept for more than 4 weeks before using.

Try buying locally roasted beans. The imported stuff is usually already 6 weeks old by the time they come into the shops.

Always keep in sealed container not in sunlight.

No idea where to buy beans in Gauteng. I like woolies organic beans. Here in cpt I buy Deluxe; Kamili, or Mischu Isabella's Blend.

Where I stay there is really not a lot of choice, so been using the woollies organic beans, and for us it works really well, and if you get the 10% price cut it works out really cheap cheap!

I was able to get 1kg FRESHLY roasted Ethiopian organic beans at a coffee shop in Greyton (Western Cape) while I was away on holiday last week. Very good price (R195/kg). That is the best price I have seen outside of Woollies!
