Awesome stuff greibel! I might be in for one, but not right now. Was keen to add some wood accents to my machine as well but it's quite pricey, you ever consider something like that?

Thanks mate. If you are talking about panels then you should go ask on the woodworking thread. Some talented guys there. If you want round knobs or something turned up in a lathe, I am sure I could help

That does look interesting! The round stuff is doable, however the flat stuff may be more of a challenge with the equipment that I have available unfortunately.

Right chaps, had a gap this weekend and machined up 2 tampers. Both are still at 59dia waiting for final machining details. The straight edge height is currently 10mm (Will increase slightly once I finish the diameter. Can also be adjusted by machining some material off of desired. Brass ring is solid with a diameter of 25mm. Looking at supplying 3 rings per unit so that handle height can be adjusted to suit your hand, Effectively allowing for 15mm of adjustment. Handle is Tamboti and hasn't been treated yet. Will be done with Danish oil if I can get my hands on some.

Over all diameter of the handle is around 35mm and it fits nicely into your hands with your fingers just putting pressure of the base to stabilize it while tamping.

Current options are 304 Stainless steel and T6 series aluminium.

Stainless:

Aluminium:

For the weight weenies:

Would the preference be stainless or aluminium?

Price point will initially be around the R500 mark as an introductory offer.

Stainless for me.. and I must apologise - I forgot completely... Will get on it in the am.

58.5 should work for me - could maybe go a bit bigger but I suspect it will get stuck with small misalignment when tamping.

Pm me some dets and let me square you soonest.

We use to have the Jira machines at work.  After a while it does taste funny (office wasn't good on maintenance I guess)  but even on the best of days... it didn't beat an ordinary plunger-coffee !

What do you guys think about these micro coffee roasting machines that are popping up in coffee shops every where, some aren't much bigger than a desktop computer tower.

If the operator knows his stuff and has good beans can they produce good coffee?

I'm sure the old cooking adages apply, consistency of temperature, even temps throughout the roaster etc, things that often aren't always feasible or possible in small diy type cooking machines running small batches but I'm not sure if that has as much affect in coffee roasting or not.

I've been lusting over a table top roaster for ages...

Been using a modified popcorn popper with some success!

Time in, temp and time out are the important factors, what the proper roasters give you is consistency which I struggle with using the popper...

Either use a vernier (Not a plastic vernier...) or a telescopic gauge and then mic it. If you use a piece of string and a ruler I might be able to knock something up for you with a file and a hammer ;)

Edit: measure the basket and then allow for your preferred tolerance
