Thanks for the advice, I'll take a drive sometime to see the Jura.

The wife mentioned a Siemens to me (I think). If I stand corrected, they are somewhere near Jan Smuts between the Zoo and Hyde Park??

About the aeropress - someone made one for me, so it's a first impression.

Take your wife on the drive too...

Siemens is in Midrand together with Bosch - but don't go there, there is not even a demo facility - Stax in Dunkeld usually stock (but don't demo)

The place you are thinking of in Jan Smuts is opposite the Jellicoe road entrance to Jan smuts - used to do only 1 brand, (Saeco) now seem to do several brands and have changed their name away from Saeco - but IMHO Saeco is NOT in the Jura league.

They shipped the first set of spares to me free of charge via DHL, just for buying their product. Thereafter I have to pay - that's service.

I like that kind of service - don't often get it though - broke a spring on a press of mine (being a total d..s) - gave the manufacturer a call in the USA, and they send FEDEX a complete set of springs and seals for the machine, and a handwritten apology for the inconvenience (despite the fact I told them it was my fault) - all at no charge.

And the next time I called them (about a year later), the lady who answered the phone recognised my voice and greeted me by name - nearly fell over in surprise.... and I have never called them again, and never needed any of the other spares they sent... but DILLON PRECISION service absolutely rocks... as does their equipment. :)

Aah, so we're talking about the same place and I got my S's mixed up.

So you reckon Saeco is not that good - good to know.

AHA... you are not a candidate for an SBDU machine - scratch that idea for a joke.... life is FAR too short...

Best you ask the wife if she would prefer a super auto or an espresso machine for when guests are around.... (and remember you might not be) - if she says Espresso machine, check her temperature for a fever, and go and buy an HX based machine - the Oscar is a good option at it's current price point... but if she really wants an espresso machine, then I guess you could change the budget a bit too.... :)

She has a fever - but that's because she's flu-ey and 38 weeks pregnant.

She wants to push a button and the coffee comes out.

I'm the one that wants to go through the whole grinding, tamping, brewing and tasting process.

I think the SBDU machine will satisfy most of my needs.

If I make filter coffee, some won't even know the difference.

I think you will find that satisfying her needs might be a great idea - or will be shortly... because otherwise you will be making her coffee at 3am.... :) and that is for sure...

Your friends will QUICKLY figure out the difference... and... you will have to get used to "Honey - won't you make me a coffee please"

BUT - there is nothing wrong with having a super auto AND an espresso machine (or 3)...

I've been living on decaffeinated beans for the past 7 months at home, purely because I only have 1 grinder. Problem solved if I get a super auto.

I guess the formula for the number of bicycles/coffee machines to own is n+1, where n = the number currently owned.

Don't forget the Limiter.... S -1.... your Significant other always thinks you have 1 too many...

I have this one. http://www.nespresso...issima/?l=jp_en

Does everything and it is at a good price from Dion Wired at the moment.

Here it is in the Dion Wired catalog but not at the special price. I think they are 3850 or there about.

Thanks, that's kinda what I had in mind. So I went through and had a look at this machine in store at lunch today. I like the fact that it's one press of a button and everything is done.

Probably going to go with one of these. My only hesitation is the pods and the long-run cost thereof.

So my question is: Is there an all-in-one bean-to-cup cappuccino/late machine that does it all at the press of a button, like this machine? i.e. no pods, separate grinding etc. At a similar price point?

The decent bean to cup super autos start around 6k - you should save the difference in about a year of useage over a nespresso machine @ R6 odd per pod.... If memory serves, there is a calculation in this thread somewhere... :)

Sitting at 4300 cups in just over 3 years. Not bad for a cheap-cheap Delongi.

We have a bit of a problem at work. We have a really nice Jura machine, but they have crap coffee.

At least I think it's crap - Pierre Lotti Coffee. It's cheap, so they'll keep buying it.

Anyone have an alternative that I can suggest for a similar price?
