Popped into SW yesterday afternoon and jokingly grumbled at the floor manager that they were moving things around AGAIN and that I could never find the damn Falk Socks. He explained the moving was due to them opening up an area and would be starting a separate shop, selling only bikes. They have Trek and Merida, as well as their old faithful Mongeeseesssesgoosesssees and the avalanche stuff. The Trek Rumblefish looked a helluva nice entry DS 29er

I wanted to by a cassette tool and decided to use one on my many SW vouchers that is always given to me for birthdays. The bike mechanic told me that they don't sell cassette tools. He then tells me that he doesn't have one either. I ask him how does he remove the cassette on bikes that he fixes. He held up a hammer and a screwdriver. "One hit, is all it takes" he said.

I know of a SW that is more or less across the road from a rather good LBS and they end up sending most of their bikes that they want serviced to the LBS ... how is that for a laugh!

Walked in a SW a few months ago. Was looking at prices for darts and dart boards. I also looked at the cycling kit. They were insanely expensive compared to any of the LBS in my area.

Shops like SW is proof that people in South Africa don't know how to shop for the best price.

SW is a retail shop, it will always be overpriced, you will never be able to build a reltionship and start getting that deserved automatic discount on purchases, their servicing will and does suck, etc etc.

They are basically designed to con first time buyers into buying stuff, as people then wizen up they start buying from speciality stores. The only thing i would buy at sportsmans, is a spare tube in about 3 years when the one I am carrying with me has no more shelf life left.
