No.

He should drop kick Wiggans down the Colombier and go for the top step.

That would be the best result

I see it this way, Evans is still the main threat to Wiggans (from outside Sky), and as such, Wiggans is gonna mark him.

Nibali is full of confidence, and is going to hit it hard at some point in the mountains (probably along with Taaramae, Vellits and Zubeldia), Sky will have to cover the move, and Froome is the obvious choice to do so. I see him taking the yellow, and probably the final placings between him and Wiggans being decided in the final TT, with it going a handful of seconds either way.

Why is it an issue that Chris Froome has more of an affinity to Kenya than SA?

That was me just postulating, mainly because he never rode as a south african.

We (South Africans) would like to "claim" him and his performance, but...

If Chris Froome stayed here, her would still be here.

So, good UP for him, "untying" him from our bureaucracy and making it BIG TIME in Europe.

Well done Chris Froome.

I don't care whee he comes from, but more about where he is going, and that is to the TOP of our sport.

agreed, partially why I started this thread - did we let a potential tour winner slip away? I doubt CSA can lay any real claims to the success of Robbie Hunter(as well as GM or Burry either).

 An interesting character, Froome. Was several years with Barloworld before their demise and never really featured very much with them. Could be that he was not given much freedom, BW then being effectively run by Italians. Only since being with Sky has he come to the fore, and then only since last year. Is it better training or more of a different mindset with Froomy?

Once again, I think Chris Froome is really worth talking about and I'd love to hear more about his success story. He deserves his own damn thread and here it is. There must be loads of guys here who raced with him, against him etc.

How odd and different this comment is to a few years ago when Contador and LA were on the same team. The Hub consensus was Contador having the number 21 on his back LA should work for him.

Different now ???

His family stiil lives here in Jhb as far as I can gather. Coming here at the end of the European season, in Nov. is just in time for the best of the weather here. And the city empties out over Dec, bonus!

I've seen him riding around here (Hyde Park area) - not shy of ripping thru red traffic lights it must be said.

Yep, CSA and our commentators LIKE to address to Chris Froome as a South African.

He is as much a South African as the Quenn and her GBP £!!!

That does not at all mean that I like him less or more!!!

He will be one of the next greats, no matter his origin, it matters where he is now!!!

IMO, whether or not we can claim him for our own is a moot point.

I think the most important thing is his attitude. Clearly he is destined for greatness. My hope is that when he gets to the pinnacle of his career, he doesn't forget what got him there (ie. work ethic and the support and belief of those around him.) If he manages that, I will be his biggest fan!

The impression I got of him on the 94.7 Twitter ride last year was that he is a genuine down to earth, nice bloke. He even posed for a friendly photo with NotSoSmallBen :)

Pity he took M.C. out of the country, so no local race photos from her now!

for me it doesn't matter what one of his 2 passports says, the main thing is that he end the Velits are great examples to our own young crowd, that even if you stay in SA racing and SAs shitty racing teams till you are 23, you can still make it to a podium spot in one of the biggest races there is!

Let him be the inspiration to inspire someone like Reinhard to go for his dreams!

Anyone realise that John Robertson identified all these guys?

Willing to announce my ignorance. Who is J.R.?

Current man in charge of the Konica Ladies, who started Konica Minolta, started Barloworld.

Now we know why his team won the DC, he probably pulled them all the way

He did about 80% of the team's effort - from one of the team members.
