im a middle of the pack and if that makes me a tool then so be it i love racing i hope to set an example for my kids that was never set for me i have wasted a huge part of my life smoking and drinking and being a general tjop now im fit and healthy and still a tjop ....... the training gets a bit much and balanceing family and bike gets tricky but when race day comes and i have a strong ride that always makes it worth it............i love my bike

Motivation changes.

 

20 years ago I did it to be fit, fast. To lay down the hurt and kick butt. The thrill of the sprint when you are giving it your all: sweat flying, elbows bumping elbows, legs hammering, knees brushing the bars... And then to laugh and joke with your buddies afterwards. It isn't so serious after all!

 

Nowdays it is to find that most awesome section of single track. To push yourself and your bike so that every ounce of your being is concentrated on your line as the knobblies scrabble for grip. To find that flow where corners are perfectly railed, doubles cleared, drops landed... And it barely feels as though you are touching the trail at all. Afterwards, it is the shared adventure with like minded friends.

Defintiely stress release and also for the adrenalin. If I don't get adrenalin I become depressed as my body is used to always getting it.

 

Its the closest I can come to horse riding. I used to do eventing which is going almost flat out of jumps etc, very similar to flying down singletrack with roots and drop offs etc. Only thing is that the bike is a lot more predicatable.

I started cycling because I was overweight. Did not take long to become a sick bastard with a serious bike fetish.

I spend more time buying bike stuff and assembling them, because of this I am overweight again.

Still trying to find a balance.
