I'm a novice mountain biker and I'm looking for the contact details of a good coach in Cape Town, preferably in the Southern Suburbs. I just think that it may be good to have receive proper guidance while new to the sport.

What I'm looking for is someone to help me with a structured training programme for my fitness on a mountain bike as well as technical skills such as single track, trail riding, drops, descents etc.

The other option that I'm interested in is joining a club. Please let me know if anyone has derived benefit by joining a club and if so, please post some names of clubs.

I've also heard that spending as much time in the saddle is all that is needed and coaches and clubs may not be as important.

Please advise.

Any advice and opinions will be appreciated.

Cheers,

How long have you been riding? I suggest that you, at first, start "bonding" with your bike - that means riding, and then riding and then more riding. When you're satisfied that you're getting to grips and want to start performing, only then get a coach to take it to the "next level".

On that Note: Time in the saddle is great and it works BUT having someone 2 show u how 2 do things properly is even better even if it only a one day session to cover the basics - i know i have definately benefitted hugely from just one session with James.

A bit of a Hi-Jack but I am looking for a coach in the Northern Suburbs of JHB. I am an above average rider and feel that I need a coach in order to get myself to the next level in my cycling. Any reccomendations?

Contact Dangle.

He is a fountain of knowledge and sure he will help out where he can.

Contact Slick - he knows his stuff... Had first hand experience

I happily part with advice for whoever is prepared to listen to my ramblings. :D

Just yesterday I was riding with and giving some trainings tips to a young Hubber... He seemed to be taking it all in until he crashed.

+1 (for the missus) I've tried but I'm clearly not a coach. I'm happy to pay for the services of someone to teach her. She is aiming to do the Sabie Lite. She has done a couple of 20km races but anything remotely technical and she jumps off the bike.
