Very true that a post like this can damage the reputation of a store. What I can tell you is that the manager of the store was not there on wed afternoon as he went to race Carosel on thursday, so it is the assistant who locked the store that should stayed the extra 15 min, I know the manager would have. Well done Demitri for assisting to sort out the problem. FPC Paulshof is under new ownership and there is real effort to improve the store, unfortunately every now and then this type of situation occurs and the name again gets damaged. The person responsible for closing the store that afternoon should be sent packing as his actions are not acceptable. I have a number of friends that take their bikes there and have baught bikes from them and all say that service is great and they do try go the extra mile for them. As for not opening on thursday, we have got too used to shops being open on public holidays, nothing wrong with closing on the holiday but yes they should let customers with bikes/wheels in the workshop know that there has been a change of plan.

This was not bad service but rather a slip up that was resolved thanks to Demitri and at least you got to ride on thursday. I will make sure that the guys from FPC read this and take note and action.

You would be surprised at how much damage a thread like this will do to a shop.

I mean 7 out of 10 guys will now go somewhere else after reading this.

And how...!!!

FPC crappy service prompted me to do the mech course with Johan at Yellowsaddle. Never looked back.

Crappy service (but not with FPC this time) made me do the same. Now I know my bike is 100% and my mates thow me a couple of beers to sort out their bikes as well - which is good practice.

One year ago I gave my gardener (an avid cyclist) my GT Avalanche cos I was upgrading. So I met him this morning and asked how his bike was. He said all was good and he had a new cassette and chain fitted. 'What did you put on' I asked. To which he replied the guys at the shop FPC Paulshof said he must use a XT cassette and equivalent chain cos the RD is XT!!!!!! Have you ever heard such cr@p in your life??? Here is a guy who rides for transport (not racing) and can hardly afford to put XT components on his bike (hell I think twice before shelling out for XT).

All that the shop has done is F&UK him over when a chain and cassette half the price would have been just as good and probably longer wearing!!!!!

Poor guy got screwed as im sure many people have in the past. Im so itching to start my own "service only" cycle shop in Cape Town. A honest" get what you pay for" workshop.

Thanks to the person for bringing this to my attention, As manager of the store this has me fuming, I have worked hard to try to improve the reputation of the store. We are not perfect but when at the store I do what is necessary to keep service levels high and customers happy. Unfortunately this happened when I was not at the store, if I had been there I am sure that I would have made sure that ShowDem had his wheels, the shop would have stayed open. I am not sure exactly what transpired but will find out for sure.

I am still waiting for my quote from 2006. went in and asked for a bike which was going to be worth R30k (quite a bit in 2006). They said they woul spec it for me and get back. Nothing a week later. So I went back and they even managed to convince me to build a bike with the BMC frame hanging on the wall. They would get back to me the next day on the cost. Still nothing to this day. Well a few days later I walked into westrand cycles and within 1 hr had bought a merida team carbon bike.

Last time I went back I managed to walk around the shop look at bikes and walk out with out being noticed. Must have been in there 10 minutes........
