Personally I think you need to consult a doctor and get his / her professional advice.

Everyone is different, age, health, medical conditions etc and because 10 folk say they were fine is no reason to believe the same applies to you.

Starting a family is not something to gamble with, take the advice of a professional and unless you put food on the table with cycling, listen to them, you can start cycling again later if necessary, struggling to start a family is another stress entirely.

Good luck, its going to be a doozie.! :)

Just make sure your Doc is a cyclist such as my GP (& my urologist) !

Read about my GP here http://zoutpansberger.co.za/details/12-07-2012/dr_casper_completes_epic_freedom_challenge/13970

I have 2 kids and have always cycled. I went t see 2 Urologists, one olds doc whom my old man has been seing for years and a younger doc. The older urologist did ask me to stop cycling, hence me off to see the younger one. It was not so much the cycling that was the problem but rather the wearing of lycra and he heat build up of the testes, that he said was he problem. He also gave me Proviron to take. The younger doc said cycling was not a problem and was of the opinion that the "old school" doctors generally thought cycling to be bad for fertility. He said i should take Stamina Grow pills and should be fine. I decided to take both medication and continue to cycle. Wife fell pregnant in 2 months

I will also say that i was tested, most men for whatever reason often refuse, but think it is woth you while to be checked ou to. The woman often get the blame when things don't happen but can tell you that my brother in-law always blamed his wife and he is the one with the problem. I have heard many such cases and your wifes gynae can confirm this.

Good luck but personally i think you can continue to cycle.....the problem is if your wife is going to be happy with this

Nobody has more time in the saddle than a pro cyclist and if I remember correctly Cavendish got his lady pregnant during the TDF last year. Then you get couples who have never been on a bicycle and they are trying for years to get pregnant. Tell her you will cut down on the cycling if she does not fall pregnant within say 3 or 4 months.

I was competive doing 12- 15 hrs/week for about 10 years before we married started a family, and ended up with 4 kids 10 years later before I got a snip. Now 45 years after joining my first cycling club I've cut back to 4-6 hrs per week ...

I guess cycling made me too fertile....

And all those years ( and now) I rode a Rolls Saddle or its predecessor with the same shape.

To sum it up .Ride in a pink outfit and you are the man!!

Jens Voigt has 6 kids I think.

Doctors and specialists cost money. I HATE it when the first thing people do is run to doctors. They make a killing in this country for telling you normal 'duh' stuff you could have read up by yourself.

Relax and enjoy the ride.

When the time comes it will happen.

  - Ha, Ha, "Honest effort....." - funniest story I have read lately.

HAHAHAHAHA!

I agree with the guy making an honest effort, I would have done so myself.

Also struggling here... went to do sperm count. That was overall low (but still high enough to get pregnant + some morphed sperm), but not infertile.

.

Was told to quit smoking & ease back on the dop. So I lost 13kg's, don't smoke anymore & fitness is lekker. I am now on herbal "Fertiboost" homeopathic pills for about 7months now, was told to we might see some results after 8months. I also thought it might be cycling related, but I am not doing that much time in the saddle.

We keep trying, nothing yet - but I must say my wife and I had rough year, stress wise. All the friends are having kids (adding more stress I guess?) so we are at an all time low (adding more stress).

Everyone around us say "Just give it time", "It will come when you least expect it", "Will happen when you are less stressed" but, that is easy to say when you are standing on the other side + I am sick of those comments.

Been trying for 2 years now

Hopefully one day....

I hear you Spidy, but one needs to be careful giving unqualified medical advice to someone, especially relating to something a important as starting a healthy family.

I am not one to scaremonger but there can be medical issues involved and googling your self healthy or into a something as important as this is not really recommended, google your way around your common cold, but a healthy baby......Uh, Uh.

I can also guarantee Jens had the best possible medical advice as he puts food on the table with cycling, its not something he can just stop, for the rest of us...........anyway, I have said my piece, I wish the OP luck, either way its gonna be the ride of your life.

I would give anything for the chance to do it again.

Everyone is unique and this is not the type of thing that gets resolved by slowing down your cycling habits. Yes give that a go if you've already been trying for more than 6 months with no joy and even then it'll make little difference.

I'd be more concerned about buckling to the demands to slow down cycling before you even have the kids. You can be sure what the request will be after you have them as well! That is a much more difficult path to travel and do what you need to and still make the time to ride whilst keeping the other half happy with the situation.

I'd advise you not to cave unless you're prepared to do that when the request comes again as well!

I was training for the DC, putting in around 12 hours a week when I got my wife pregnant for the first time, with a particularly disappointing level of trying, like first or second crack at it. Same story second time around, except I was training for the Argus. I have it on pretty good authority however that excessive exercise can adversely affect female fertility, to the point of bringing on early menopause.
