Sorry about this, I know it is way off topic. What happened to that mercenary legislation the government implemented a while back?

It's called the foreign military assistance act. Having worked for Executive Outcomes in Sierra Leone and DRC the law changed the way as to how they describe your employment with these companies now. Looking to get back into Africa but the SA Companies that used to deal as agents has become rip off artists.

still have my trusty old Victorinox Army knife with all the bells and whistles

Carry it in my saddle bag - never know when it might come in use

I Hope somebody can help me. I have a lock blade knife that has a broken blade - looks like a shark took a bite out of it, so i want a knife maker that can redo the knife i.e. replace the blade - anyone know of someone that can do this?

Is the knife worth it? Replacing the blade will probably set you back R1500. But I would recommend Harris Engelbrecht, he does beautiful work! his number is 083 380 6171, and he's located in Pta

If you want the true Opinel experience, you need the carbon steel blade. Takes a bit of a mental shift not to have a nice shiny blade tho.

Edit: the only reason I have one was that there was one at the checkout of the local hardware store for R99 and I thought 'Bugger, that's for nothing' and bought it. I can't say I was particularly convinced for the first week or two, but it has grown on me. I'll now carry it over any other common pocket knife - it's light and and has a wicked edge.

I just bought the marine version with a plastic handle with a built in whistle. The lower half has a serrated edge to cut rope with.http://www.opinel.com/uk/tradition/specialistes/ndeg8-outdoor-azur

My trusty pocketknife, goes along on every ride, and pretty much always in my pocket.

Bought it in Chamonix, France earlier in the year.

On my 5am riding route, there is a particularly hairy section just as you hit a steep climb where I normally take it out, open and lock the blade, and keep it in my left hand, just as an in-case for peace of mind more than anything else.

Other than that it is mostly used for biltong and avo's...

Beautiful knives those. Saw my first one in the flesh last week.

Riding with an open knife, even slowly.....
