Sorry to break it to you but Rooikrans is Wattle

Shite wood

Yes both a member of the Acacia family, but rooikrans (Acacia Cyclops) is vastly superior to wattle (‎Acacia Mearnsii) for braaing. You also get good rooikrans and you get shite rooikrans.

Wattle belongs in the fireplace on a cold winter's evening.

Obviously Doringhout is superior to both, but I'd say far less eco friendly?

Rooikrans is crap

Sekelbos is one of the best and is invasive where over grazing takes place so dug out and freely available.

No self-respecting Capie braais with wattle. Rooikrans is what you want.

Luckily my roots are deep settled in the Vrystaat, wattle is all I have freely available here where I live for the past 18 years.

Hmm...Rooikrans is acacia cyclops and defined as a coastal invasive shrub, it is never referred to as wattle, the below three are wattles.

Wattle of which there are black, green and silver is acacia mearnsii (black), dealbata (silver), decurrens (green). Great for the fire place, shite for the braai!

Once a month we have staff birthday lunch. It's usually a curry that the CEO's PA cooks. Together with it, a chocolate cake with caramel filling that Nancy Drew's company supplies - easliy the best cake I've ever eaten.

The wet Rooikrans you buy in bags at the petrol station is useless yes, but if you buy it in bulk and let it dry properly it works perfectly fine & much cheaper than sekelbos etc

Acacia cyclops, commonly known as red-eyed wattle or western coastal wattle, is a coastal shrub or small tree in the family Fabaceae. Native to Australia, it is distributed along the west coast of Western Australia as far north as Jurien Bay, and along the south coast into South
