From what I've heard he's pretty disagreeable and in all likelihood a sociopath.

Interesting thought that. I wonder how many top sportsmen are sociopaths. Check out the characteristics os a sociopath below.

An interesting thing that came out of Hamilton's book was that the doping doctors (except probably Ferrari) tended to be crap doctors, including being disorganised. One of Hamilton's issues (or the the main issue) was that he was caught with somebody else's blood in him.

How bad is this, on a number of levels?

1. Blood reactions

2. HIV / hepatitis transfer - and who knows what else

3. and athletes being caught with other people's blood in them...

The doc had some clown who was half demented at the time managing the blood bags... I mean, seriously, wtf?

If its the right group and checked out whats the problem.Transfusions are going on all the time

There was a guy in the TDF once who wore a special contraption to pass someone elses urine for a urine test.Got nabbed

I finished the book last night. It made for interesting reading.

He outlines that the key to US Postal's success was their doctors and tight team policy & systems. No Postie was bust (except for LA in 2001) and all the Posties that left were eventually bust when they were on other teams. Most likely because the lack of skill/professionalism by the team's doctors. (Vaugthters jokes that bags were probably left in the sun while the Dr was having a glass of wine)

It was also interesting to read that Landis said that LA would phone UCI from time to time and warn them of his competitors possible doping habits if they got too good. That reinforces the idea that he was close enough to Hein & UCI to have his positive results swept under the carpet.

Amazing that everybody just seem to take in that Armstrong doped! What about all the other guys? They all still had a choice you know! If we have to start taking titles away there will be no race with a winner the last 10 years (or more)

I think you are 100% right. Which is why it is very unfair that eg Contador had his title stripped and it was awarded to Schleck when there is a very high likelihood that Schleck ALSO doped. Fact is that it seems that in order to be competitive, you HAVE to dope and there was that article recently which showed that the performance of athletes has dropped in the last few years - almost certainly due to more stringent anti-doping efforts. But it also shows that ALL the top riders are riding faster for longer and that is highly unlikely due only to improved training, nutrition etc as why would performance now be dropping?

The thing is though - the top guy gets the most attention. That's how it always goes. So LA gets a lot of heat because:

  • He was top of the (TdF) pile for a long time
  • He vehemently and indignantly denied being a doper
  • He has an abrasive personality that has rubbed many up the wrong way

But I agree - he is NOT alone.

Maybe i am missing the plot totally but although Thyler may seem to give Lance most of the brunt i really feel that his main intent is to inform the public as to how rife the sport is with doping. Lance gets allot of attention because he was there during Tyler's glory years. If Tyler never were on Postal then he surely still would have doped on any other team and then somebody like Riis would probably have taken most of the brunt in this book!

I really do not get why we all are so surprised after reading this book! Come on? I can also tell you it def is not just this wonderful sport of ours but this happens in all sports where you compete on a global stage. Wake up and smell the coffee

if he wasn't on postal he would have doped anyway but there would never have been a book.
