Saw that video a while back, pretty cool design. But I wonder if its cheaper than building a steel frame?

He says $9 to build... would retail for about $20.

And its belt drive nogal!

At long last the Northern Province tenderpreneurs will have an incentive to deliver school books... maybe not to the schools yet, but small steps hey?

So the locals will only have to work for about 4 months. To afford the front wheel.

:whistling: you're one of those problem for every solution type chaps aren't you? Or every silver lining has a cloud...

No idea how good this product is but I like the way this dude thinks. His thinking includes incorporating corporate advertising in the frame to further subsidise the cost...

so the tyres will cost more than the bike?

I assume that includes the tyres - which are solids made from recycle rubber and at lifespan of 9 yrs will probably outlast the bike... Imagine the ride won't be the plushest.

It needs to be SABS tested here first. The tyres might last nine years, I would give the rest of the bike 3 weeks.

Call me a pessimist if you want, but I seen what happens to stuff that was built to endure the hardships of Africa ...

Kudos to the inventor for thinking outside the box though !

wow. I for one think this is a great idea. If we can go on his words. It is waterproof (submerged for a few months and did not degrade) that would be unpaineted I assume. Also fireresitant. Does not have pneumatic tyres so no punctures. Bike weighs 9kg as a whole and may even be given away for free due to the low manufacturing costs and potetial advertising income. Yes the african market is a little tougher but I think this is a great idea.
