Not last rider but 6th rider in at the rest area Wannabe. First rider out restarts the clock. I last did the DC in 2006. Do they not stagger the race teams through the field still? It was never really a situation where the first team home was the actual leader on the clock and on the road.

That makes it easier. And yes, they do still stagger the Start, with the theoretical "fastest" team startingg last. So you are right, no problem then.

What's the okes on about, I see no problem with this. If the Team wants to rest, they have half an hour max to do so, no time lost. If a Team does not want to rest, roll on through, no problem. Also, no time lost.

opens up the following scenario: send 6 guys up the road from the start to stop the clock at ashton. Other 6 ride easy/easier (but have to get to ashton within the 30mins, of course) and then ride full gas from ashton to the finish.

Uhm, also makes sense.

Think it will be better to mail Orgs with all the queries / permutations, and see what their response is.

totally!

Expect teams to gun it to this spot, maybe even burn a few riders to get there and let the main manne chill for a bit on the way.

All sports evolve, why shouldn't the DC.?

Team's can choose how they wish to approach this the 30min stop.

It's not enforced, it's not compulsory.

Some may benefit from the stop, others may wish to maintain momentum and ride through or just stop for a shorter period.

Does it really matter.?

I understand that some may miss the "pain fest".

I understand that the "race" may be "easier" than in the past.

But whatever the rules, they are applicable to all so no one team stands to benefit more ... as a race (for this year), it's still fair to all particiants.

From a racing perspective it matters - is an explanation really necessary?

By applying this to all teams it feels to me like they're basically taking DC out of the racing calendar and positioning themselves as something more social.

exactly.

why not have a tea break half way up tourmalet? everyone can have a 30min rest and rub down, then get back on their bikes and carry on with the tour

@Luke: nice 'easy social' DC, because you'll be racing Die Burger the following weekend! ; - )

I really really can't get myself to like this idea.unsure.png

the idea that you can sit around for a half hour and do nothing and end up with the same finishing time as a similar team that opted not to take the rest just doesn't compute with me. I say just extend the cut-off time if you think the event is too tough for some.... And rule 5 definitely comes to mind as well..
