Cleaning the bike and came across this white patch on the top of the bb. It feels if there is carbon missing.

Is this normal or should I take it back to the shop?

The frame is only 4 months old and its a Merida Scultura Evo 904.

Can't really see, but looks like a nick.

Best post a clear close up for the esteemed peanut gallery to vent contradicting opinions.

Had a similar crack on my Santa Cruz you take it back to your lbs, they send out a rep From the factory and if it's a crack replacement . Mine was that easy, the guy walked in looked at it and said " factory issue" replacement, two weeks later new Santa Cruz .

Don't wait , worse case scenario they say it's a paint crack,

Take it in, dude. If it's a crack, the rep will replace it. If not, and later it turns out to be, you have proof that you requested an inspection before.

And as for what to do with 2 weeks without a bike, go to gym, go for a run, go swimming, whatever... And rest easy knowing that your frame is being replaced with a new, un-cracked one.

Hope this pic is better.

What do you do for 2 weeks without a bike?

Chances are it only takes a week, it took 5 days for them to replace my Silverback frame a month ago...

EDIT: but considering that most of the distributors have closed shop, who knows unless you find out.

Looks like something slid down the lower triangle tube and left a nick in the paint, but might be an idea to have it checked out if under warranty as suggested, although I wouldn't have too much confidence in the technical opinions offered at the average lbs.

What to do? always have a Plan B boet. My commuter mtb is being serviced (by yours truly), currently awaiting spares, I've had to take my road bike on the roads of Jhb where I mostly ride on the pavements, and very bumpy but I feel the weight difference in terms of bunny hops over pot holes and onto pavements, and sure goes up the hills quicker.
