Single Speed - what gears to start with

I suppose depend how strong u feel . Spruit 32/16 for sure . 32/18 you gonna spin like crazy !!

32x18 is a great gear to start with. Then move to the 32x16.

 

I run a 32x19 on a 29er which I think is around the 32x18 mark on a 26er. I do post under correction though.

 

Perfect ratio to start on and I've kept it going. Great on NF and Spruit.

Hi guys. I need a crank for my SS and I know you can use a standard 3x9 crankset but looking in ordering a Zee crankset with a 36T chainring (only comes in 36T). Will this work or can you suggest anything else? I see everybody runs 32T chainrings on the front.

Oh, I ride 32x16 or 32x18 on my MTB SS (A 26er).

Road SS has the small chainring (I hope so, so 39, not 52) and an 18

SS = Always the wrong gear, choose your poison? Either easy so you can climb walls or hard so you can decend like a demon or in between and be ok on slight inclines only ......

 

That's my experience .... I used 32*18 on my 26" and now on a 32*20 on a 29"

 

I guess it's a bit of a mindset change - run what you brung and just have fun!

Hi okes.

 

I'm building up an On-One SS. I've found an old XTR crank, only problem is that the BCD on middle ring is 100mm, and most new Cranks have BCD of 104mm.

 

Any solutions or do I need to find a newer crank?

@the nerd. May well be 102, using cr@ppy vernier. It is less than 104mm though. Are 102mm rings available?
